bios upgrade failed on Asus laptop Win 8.1

Asus eSupport popped up a 'upgrade your Bios' on my Win 8.1 laptop on Tuesday. I clicked on it and I haven't been able to get to Windows since.

I have been able to copy some of my files off to an external usb hard drive.

Is there any way I can reverse this upgrade ? I have tried several restore points, they all have failed.

    Thanks !

Local computer store might be able to help me.

Other than replacing the BIOS, is it possible to reverse a bios upgrtade ?

    JimJoe,
you can try to re install the original BIOS, if you can find it at Asus.
Also, have you tried to do a repair install of windows, that might get it going again.
    good luck

Yup, I managed under 'advanced options' to do several repair items... none worked.

In the past when my computer failed, I always for got some files, some important. So I found this yuck 'mini-desktop' computer It has a brick adaptert... so I guess its really a laptop with a large case. Anyway, back online. I just have to configure everything again. This thing is an Acer AXC-704G-UW61. Running Win 10.

I have an external drive case, if its the correct type I'll put the laptop hd in that and make sure I've copied everything over... Then format it and use it as extrra storage. Probably use my larger desktop keyboard, this one is too narrow.

    edit:

Almost forgot. I'll also try a complete, back to the beginning, refresh and see if that fixes it. But copying files comes first.

Turns out I didn't have a SATA 2.5" hdd external drive case so i had to order one. When I get that, and make sure all my files are copied off,, I'll do a complete refresh on the laptop. And see what i need to do to get a prevbious BIOS from Asus.

This has certainly been an adventure.

Have you tried disconnecting all electricity, take the laptop apart, and trying to find the CMOS battery(if it's at all possible) and taking it out press the power button to drain all leftover juice, and replacing the CMOS back in. This should reset your BIOS to default.

Yeah, I had thought about letting the battery drain. Most of the computers I have worked with, last job, had capacitors in the instances when we looked. I remember back.. well, a long time ago, that the cmos batteries were out in the open and easy to replace. I've seen some that were soldered in place, but not recently.

    I'll try that.

All fixed on my prtofile. I popped the case open to get to the hdd so I could copy files. I didn't see a CMOS battery on one side of the motherboard. I'll take it out of the case completely when I get a chance.
