Printer offline, or fails to work on this computer

Hey,

I have an Asus transformer t-100 and a Lenovo Thinkpad e430. I connect my HP LaserJet P1102 to these two laptops, but as of recently, my Asus fails to print, although my Lenovo has no problem.

Asus shows my printer as "offline" and doesn't print anything, when I uncheck "Print as offline" it gives me this error:

Interestingly, when I connect my printer, another printer is automatically installed to my laptop that is completely irrelevant and doesn't print either; it's called HP LaserJet 1100 Series:

I have uninstalled and installed the driver again, but to no avail.

How do you connect them?

If me, I would setup the printer's wireless networking to your network. Then you never have to connect or disconnect the printer.

Check you router. Many have a USB port to turn any USB printer into a networked printer. The advantages are many (to where even buying a new router is worth considering).

Advantages include:

  1. No tethers (printer cables connected) to any computer. Particularly nice if you move around with your notebook.
  2. Any computer on your network can print (even at the same time).
  3. The printer can sit in a central location, out of the way and off your desk.
  4. No computer needs to be turned on and running to "share" the printer (I realize you are not sharing, but if you do...).
  5. No printer sharing needs to be enabled in the operating system, thus fewer security issues.
The problem with connecting and disconnecting all the time is that corruption can occur. This is compounded when different printers are used as is often the case with notebooks that go from home to office and back, or even home networks that have, for example, a color inkjet and a laser B&W.

In the meantime, I recommend you uninstall all the drivers again - then reboot before attempting to install them again. And check the manual. Often they want the computer disconnected while installing the drivers. Once installed, then you connect it again. Otherwise, driver corruption may result.
