Can I do without AMD drivers

I have to update it every month and often I forget to do so (I get no reminders at all) and often I have to make sure I have the right kind. I installed Crimson 16.1.1 hotfix today and for whatever reason, according to my device manager, an old version of 13 or something like that was installed instead. So installing AMD for an update seems to be a pain in the neck and it's driving me crazy. By default, my computer have microsoft basic display adapter. Can I just use that one and do without AMD at all? Btw, the version of that was from way back in 2006. It's surprising my PC is still working with that one that old lol. I only just watch videos, a lot of youtube and I don't do a lot of gaming. Mainly games from Facebook like Candy Crush and Criminal Case. I'm just tired of dealing with AMD so I was wondering if it was possible to just use microsoft basic display adapter.

I've installed Windows 8.1 on MANY PC's that have AMD cpu's and ????? video cards. Some were as old as ten years.
Windows 8.1 has a great set of Compatible Drivers for all sorts of hardware, even add on cards like a USB 3.0 card. And printers too.
It even installs drivers for my Epson printer.

So why are you laboring over "Drivers"? Put your efforts to work elsewhere, doing something more constructive.
Windows was never designed for the user to worry about drivers. If something works on a driver this week, it will work with the same driver next week, or next month, or next year. Eh?

    Good Luck,

Um, because I get BSODs when I don't update my display drivers and I keep getting them every time AMD update their display drivers and I don't install them. They update them like every month and don't work for my PC if they're not updated. It's ridiculous. They don't need to update them that often. If I can keep old display drivers without getting BSODs then that would be great.

    Liz81,

I'm sorry to be so crude, you can get some answers...

but what in God's green earth are you talking about??

(If I understand what you wrote correctly, and please tell me if I'm misunderstanding...)

you think you have to update your video driver every month?

What kind of computer do you even have that you think you have to update your video driver every month and if you forget you get BSOD's!?

Lord we have another poltergeist again.. ha

I'm sorry but why don't you tell us what computer you have and what video card you have and maybe there might be an answer..

(usually when you buy a computer it either comes with a built-in Display (like intelHD4600 etc..) or a dedicated Display Graphics card.. (like Geforece Nvidia or yes, AMD )...

take a close look at what YOU wrote again here.. and explain.. and then tell us the exact model computer you have..

Thank you, Derek, for saving me from the trouble. No need for that kind of tone from the other two posters. I come here for help and what do I get? Rudeness. I never said I forget I get BSODs. I said I forget to update the drivers and I feel like I need to because if I don't, then I get a BSOD so once I've updated, the BSODs stop until another update is released at amd.com. I agree, it is ridiculous to have to do this every month because I never had such a problem like this with an old computer but it is what it is. If I didn't get a BSOD every month or every time amd.com released something new then this wouldn't keep on happening. They're always releasing a new revision. Something like this
    Legacy

Edited: Well I just did the testing and found that I actually needed Radeon HD 7600, (googled the version number) not 8400. Strange because on amd.com, if you download something for 7600 then they listed Crimson Edition 16.1.1. Well, guess I'll have to try it then. Thanks!

Liz81, I also thought it was rude that you don't list anything and then ask for help.. that's where I was coming from..

It's kinda like some guy walks into a Clinic and says to the Nurse, "it hurts.. it hurts" and the Nurse looks at the guy but doesn't know what hurts or where to look..

but Now I see you have been posting before but this thread just started with the info lack of info in the beginning.. so .. anyway..

So is that your model computer or not posted above? the actual model # / serial..

if it is then it might be time to look for a "factory reset" if you don't mind losing all and anything you have saved on your HP all-in-one BSOD computer... and that would give you the first original Display driver back when you bought it..

and Unless HP forces you to update the driver for display, just deny it anytime it asks you or there may even be a setting to stop checking for updates..

Unfortunately I don't use one of those HP All-in-Ones.. But I have read and heard of nothing but problems.. so it appears they seem to not be out long enough to be stable..?

Yeah, that's the one, thanks. I suppose I'm going to have to depend on HP's website rather than amd.com (like the test in the link that was just given to me) to make sure I got the right kind of driver and the revision number. Amd.com could be the reason why I keep getting the BSODs, I don't know. Good to know that I don't have to keep on checking for updates for the driver. It's quite annoying. As far as the All-in-Ones not being out long enough to be stable, that could be it.
