    Burn To Disc Mayhem

I have just upgraded my laptop to an HP Envy with Win 8.1. My problem starts when I insert a Photo DVD, open the image folders on it via file explorer and start selecting images to copy to an internal or external drive. Whilst I am doing so (and I could be selecting up to thirty plus images at a time) Windows captures the selected images and places them in a temporary burn folder before advising me I haven't got enough room on the Photo DVD for the files to be burned to it (all very logical). Why, though, is Windows capturing the selected images and placing them in a burn folder in the first place? As this happens virtually every time I try to copy any files from DVD to an internal/external drive the whole thing is becoming a right pain in the backside -especially as when I try to eject the Photo DVD, the whole system crashes .

I would be extremely grateful if anyone could enlighten me as to what the problem is here and if there is a way to overcome it. I should add that I have been using win 8.1 for over a year on a more modest HP Pavilion without a hint of a problem.

    Thanks for reading.

I don't use the built in burning features in Windows. I use Nero, but it is not free. Two free and popular CD/DVD burning programs are Imgburn and CDBurnerXP. Try one of those for what you want to do, much better.

Thank you, Fireberd, for your advice. I have done as you suggested and disabled the windows 8.1 burning features and it has stopped the problem and made the reading of DVDs/CDs extremely quicker. Many thanks for your quick response and for helping me avoid tearing out what's left of my hair!

    Cheers!
