Fullscreen black picture turns video off.

Hi I am not sure if this is a graphics setting power setting or monitor setting.

What happens is when I put a programme in fullscreen (Windows Media player 12 for example) and the screen has a black picture the monitor will go blank and the power light will stay on.
I can move the mouse and the screen will reappear as the black scene that was playing.

if i was to wait till the black scene was to finish then the screen will reappear once it gets to a non black scene.

I have a AMD hd6450 card running on HDMI to a LG tv/monitor model M2380D.

Yes I know its a dark scene but some of the scenes that turn the screen blank are not totally black.

I think that it might be a Windows or monitor setting that detects the darker screen and blanks out the monitor.
It also happens in other programmes like paint with a fully black picture in full screen.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, welcome to forums :)

Have you updated your graphics drivers to latest one?

I hope your screen resolution has set to recommended level.

If it happens with Paint or other programs then this is not the program issue. I recommend you to check the monitor setting again.

If that doesn't works, then go for updating drivers to latest one.

Driver is up to date Windows Release Preview Driver from AMD.
Screen resolution is recommended 1080p@60Hz (50Hz for Media Center).

It seems whenever the output on the screen is dark the monitor or graphics card switches off.

I have checked the monitor settings and can only find an energy saving feature which just dims the screen a little or can have it turn off after 3 seconds.

The Catalyst Control Panel has nothing I can find relating to power saving features.
I will try a Ubuntu live cd to see if it happens there as well to see if I can narrow it down to windows 8 or the Monitor.

I was going to try Windows 7 but my main pc Motherboard had to be rma and i still waiting for it after 2 weeks.

So off to try Ubuntu will report back soon.

I did not get to try Ubuntu as I remembered the CD drive was not plugged in as the board has trouble with 2 pata drives plugged in.
But it fixed it self but not sure what was the thing that did it.
This I what I did.
So I was going to download Ubuntu to a memory stick but then Firefox had a flash crash which has been happening for a while.

So I uninstalled Firefox completely. Then reinstalled it and after checking pluggins etc I noticed Java was not up to date.
So downloaded but my firewall (Comodo Internet Security) block it's install as I clicked the wrong choice on the popup (Comodo has hips).
So as I could not find where to allow it again I decided to uninstall it completely and reinstall it.

After that was done I tried the Media player with a black scene and it was ok and did not send the monitor to a black screen.
Also I tried paint with a black picture in fullscreen and the same, it was ok with it not going to a black screen.

So something there changed something and all is ok. I wish I knew so if it happens again I can fix it easily.

Happy to hear that you got it fixed

Well as a conclusion, I can say that it was not the driver issue but was the problem of intersection of any program on your computer. May be it was Comodo or outdated Java. Well, enjoy... :)
