Choosing an LGA 775 motherboard that works in 8.1

Hi all, I'm new here, specifically because I have the CompareExchange128 problem with Windows 8.1.

Background: I have an older PC, it was a Pentium Dual Core 1.8ghz with an Intel DG33FB motherboard. I upgraded the video card and the CPU to a Core 2 Duo 3.33 ghz. However, what I found was that when I switched the CPU out, Win 8.1 didn't like it, due to the CompareExchange128 problem.

I believe the CPU is capable, but the motherboard is not. I have flashed it to the latest available, but that is only as recent as 2009. What I think is happening is a limitation in the motherboard is not letting Windows see the capability of the CPU.

Now I've reverted to Win 8.1 32 bit, and it works, but it's flakey and I feel like I'm not utilizing it to the full potential. Rather than part out and buy a new mobo, CPU, and ram, I think I can get away with buying a new(er) LGA 775 motherboard. The problem is, I don't know how new I need to go, in order for Windows to be OK with it. I.e. when did BIOS' begin controlling the CompareExchange128 thing? I.e. if I get a motherboard that has a bios as of 2011, will that work? Newer? Etc.

Surely someone out there is running Windows 8.1 with an older Core 2 Duo. Trying to figure out "how old".

I have had no issues running 8 on a Dell Inspiron 537s. 10 runs fine on it also. You can actually buy the board that is used for the 537 and also if you want to spend $230 for a Intel Core 2 Quad. It would be more than enough horsepower.
