WD2500AAJS not detected by motherboard

Hi guys
i got a hard drive from friend WD2500AAJS.
On his PC it was working fine, but when i connected it to my PC via SATA Port (Board model: Intel DH67CL), it doesn't show up anywhere e.g boot menu, on windows installation setup.

But if i connect it with "SATA to USB cable" , it works very fine.

i have tried changing other port on motherboard while different SATA connecting cable too, but no work.

what possible issue it cloud be ?

while on the same PC i am using another hard drive which is working fine with SATA port and USB as well. the issue is somewhere between hard disk and mother board.

Kindly guide.
Regards.

I don't know the particulars of your board. Go into your BIOS under drives and see if that port is turned on.

I don't know if it matters on a SATA or not, but have you checked the master-slave jumpers?

There is a jumper block on the drive and on the drive label, it has some comments about that jumper block. I can't find an image large enough for me to read the comments -- but in some cases, those jumpers are used to switch between different SATA versions -- like 3 GB/s vs. 1.5GB/s. I would just confirm that there are no jumpers on any of the pins.

there is nothing on Factory Jumper Setting Pin, mean to say these pins are open.
its written on HD that "Master/slave jumper not required fr SATA..
Jumpered pins 3 and 4 enable PUIS (Power Up In Standby)"

This may be the jumper setting that Mark was referring to.

I would try the 2 bottom ones just to see what happens. Also are you using SATA power connector or legacy power connector ?

Hi there,

I strongly recommend that you use the HDD manufacturer testing tool to check the HDD health before doing anything else. You can download WD DLG here Support Answers. Have you checked if the HDD appears in Windows Disk Management and Device manager? Could you please specify with what version of Windows was the drive used previously? Do you have any data on this drive that you need to keep? Keep me posted.

I had a case in the past where the HDD was playing up the same way and it turned out to be due to the USB to SATA enclosure had done something strange while formatting the HDD. I would suggest that you copy all your data to a different HDD. Then connect the HDD directly via SATA and use WD DLG DOS version and make one pass of the full write zeros ( this will completely erase the HDD). Then boot Windows and the drive should appear in Windows Disk Management where you can initialize and format it.

And there is another thing you can try before that - try running Windows Memory Diagnostic Tools.

Keep me posted.

hi guys
Ran Memory test (windows memory diagnostic tool) it was fine, no error

Well now situation is really changed :(
last morning i turned on my PC, it turned on, and when it was desktop, i tried to connect SATA to USB, but then screen was distorted and PC hangup, i turned off power, then tried to boot, but there was no display, no boot display, no beep mobo, and i was like screwed...
then i removed RAM = 3 beep (ram error)
then reinserted, again same situation, no display etc...
then i felt small current on my arm skin from chassis, i though its my Power Supply, that causing error.. i borrowed Power Supply from friend, t tried but no result
then got his RAM and inserted i n my mobo, wow, it worked like charm....
after that my 2500aajs hard disk appeared but via SATA to USB...
but last night window reported there is error on that drive, so ran chkdsk r/ x: but during that HDD disconnected on its own, and reconnected, there started a cycle of disconnect/reconnect, it went for about 5mint, then i removed HDD, reinserted after half an hour, and to my luck :/
one of drive at disk ( in which my i saved data previously ) was showing as RAW but not NTFS file system.

now i want to know whether that small current that i felt on skin could harm any of device of my PC ? better i replace Pow Sup or continue ?
second... how to repair that drive which is showing RAW file system and showing zero size, but in Disk Management show actual size.

one thing forget to mention, i ran WD test tool, quick test failed as it was unable to read data

what to do now -_-
