I am using windows 8 and I have read previous threads with similar issues that I face but my problem is unique. My 60GB external Hard disk was manufactured by FUJITSU and was taken out of a dell laptop. When I bought a case for it yesterday it was tested in a laptop computer to see if it was working before I paid for the case and it was working properly. However, the owner of the laptop removed the cable without safely ejecting the drive first. Later, I connected it to several computer and it would install and be detected in Device manager, Disk Management and even devices and printers but it does not show in My Computer nor does autoplay options pop up. In disk management it is shown as Disk 1 unknown not initialized as shown in the attached screenshot. DM3.PNG

I notice that whenever i open disk management, it prompts me to initialize the disk but when i chose gpt and click ok, this window pops up
DM 2.PNG
when I right click the Disk 1 the initialize option is gray and only offline, properties, and help are available. I used mini partition tool and this is what i get

I am at my wits end. Please assist. I do not need what is inside the hdd. I just want it to work.

Did you try initialising it as an MBR disk?

Yes I did. But a window popped up saying DEVICE NOT READY.

Hi there,

It is very likely that this HDD was damaged when disconnected suddenly. I suggest you look for the HDD manufacturer testing tool and use it to scan the HDD health. Apart from this you can try connecting the HDD directly via SATA. Good luck.

Thank you. I will try this and come back with word. I hope this works though.

I tried it and no luck. I am now convinced my HDD is irreparably damaged. Thanks for the response all
