W8.1, bluetooth mouse disconnects often during usage

Hi guys, I have Windows 8.1 and I am using the MS sculpt comfort mouse. The problem is that my bluetooth disconnects from time to time, with seemingly no pattern.

I have already gone to device manager->bluetooth->intel (R) wireless bluetooth (R) 4.0-> properties and unchecked "allow this computer to turn off this device to save power". I also doubt it is a power thing because I would be using my computer and moving the mouse and all of a sudden the bluetooth mouse would disconnect.

I usually get it reconnected by going to the bluetooth device icon in the tray and clicking on "show bluetooth devices" and it would take me to that settings->bluetooth page with Windows 8 graphics. It would show that bluetooth on and even my mouse is connected, and after a while my mouse starts working again. Sometimes I can also fix it by putting my computer to sleep and then re-awaken it.

I also noticed when my mouse disconnects, if I go to device manager, I see that all those entries underneath Bluetooth would disappear, leaving only intel (R) wireless (I think, I don't remember exactly) icon with a yellow exclamation mark on it. If I disable then enable, or putting computer to sleep then reawaken, or go to the settings page to wait for disconnection, the the stuff in device manager then fills up. It seems like my computer is stopping bluetooth service or something.

Can somebody help me with this bluetooth issue? Thank you.

I would try uninstalling everything BT in Device manager then reboot and let it re-install. Latest drivers? What exact Intel BT model?

I would try the obvious first and replace the batteries. I started keeping track of battery replacements in a spreadsheet a few years ago and I have noticed the batteries in my Microsoft BT mouse will some times last for 6 months and other times only 4 months. When the batteries get weak, interference from other RF sources nearby can affect connectivity. And note those RF sources don't have to be radio devices like cell phones or other BT devices - but florescent lights, microwave ovens, TVs, and other electronics.

Also, you might try moving your BT dongle to a different USB port.

USB dongle? Guess I missed something, mine is on the wireless card inside my laptop.

Laptop? Maybe it was me missing something. The OP keeps saying "computer". That does not imply "laptop". And most PCs don't have integrated BT. And many (if not most) laptop users don't use a mouse, but instead the touchpad.

So before either of us make more assumptions, windows8thumba, please tell us what hardware we are talking about here.

People tend to post very limited info then my old brain gets cornfused.

Well, at my age, I certainly suffer from acute cranial flatulence at times too. But I also tend to assume when I shouldn't causing me to fill in gaps that aren't even there.

So the order of the day until the OP returns with more information is "hurry up and wait". After 24+ years in the military, I do that well.

OP here. Yes it's a laptop with wireless bluetooth inside, sorry if that wasn't clear. There's no dongle. Also the battery is good and I've replaced it multiple times.

Device manager Bluetooth has the following sections:

    Device Identification Service
    Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) 4.0
    Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator
    Microsoft Bluetooth LE Enumerator
    Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Mouse
    Service Discovery Service

If no errors in Device Manager and the wifi app on your notebook shows wifi is working and the mouse still connected, I think I would try a different mouse rather than assume it is your notebook's adapter.
