External HD detected but not found on My Computer

    Hi all,

This seems like a common problem and I have spotted a few threads to which I have tried following the solutions but to no avail. Decided then to post this thread up in seek for some solutions. I'm using a Toshiba 1TB Harddisk and have huge amount of data within the HD that's not been backed-up.

I have included screenshot of Disk Management and the HD's detected to be Unknown and Not Initialized.

Please help me! Do let me know what other information do I need to provide, thanks.

I think the key there is where it says "Not Initialized".... I've had this exact problem before too.. Go up into your menu at the top and poke around for something that would imply an action to initialize.. It may not be called that however. You could also try Right Clicking on it and check that menu also.

It's(Disk 2) reading as unallocated,, to me it looks like you haven't partitioned it yet, to NTFS with GPT partitioning meaning there is not data on it at all.

    Hi toasted,

Please download, and install MiniTool Partition Wizard Free Edition 9.1. Best Free Partition Manager for Windows | MiniTool Partition Free Remove all other external drives/pen drives. With only the faulty external plugged in, launch the application and post the first screen showing your external drive.

Then on the left pane click on Partition Recovery Wizard > Next > select your faulty 1 TB external drive > Next > Full Disk > Next > Quick Scan. Allow Quick Scan to complete. Post the screen showing the partitions. After taking the screenshot click on Cancel to close the Window and close Partition Wizard. Wait for further instructions after posting.

Also let me know how many partitions you had on that drive.
