    PCI WiFi Adapter

    Hi,

My first post. I have a two part question.

I have a TP-Link TL-WN95N v1 PCI 300 MPS WiFi adapter. I can find no driver to work with it in Windows 8. Else where on the 'net claims were made an Atheros driver was on board but the only Atheros drivers I have is for Ethernet chipsets. I have got no where looking at Atheros.cz or the TP-Link Support site. If anyone can help me with a driver it would be appreciated.

The next part is can someone tell me what PCI WiFi cards will definitely work with Windows 8.

I am running on a wired network at the moment but not very practical as I wheel my desk into another room.

    Thanks,

    Robert...

There are very few drivers or network adaptors that are made to work with Windows 8 as yet. Most network adaptors that worked with Windows 7 will also work with Windows 8.

Your best bet for your TP-Link TL-WN95N v1 PCI 300 MPS WiFi adapter would be to use the Windows 7 driver and install it in compatibility mode.

You can get the full wireless N speeds of 300Mb/s by going into your routers settings and set to use the "802.11n Only mode" and also use WPA2 security with AES encryption as these are made to work at full wireless N speeds. You would also need very good signal strength and a clear wireless channel for full N speeds.

    Hi chev65
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately came a bit late as I just had to have the WiFi working so I looked on the MS Win * compatible list and bought a Trensnet TEW-623PI that is compatible with the latest driver. I have no idea how to load a driver in compatible mode.
    Thanks

You can just right click on the driver before you install it and you will see the compatibility mode there. I've had to do this with a few of my drivers in order to get them to install. Most likely either of those network adaptors would work for you.

Thanks for your help. I will have to remember that one. I did install the Trensnet TEW-623PI first I downloaded the latest drivers from RaLink for the RT2860 chipset that was dated 11 Apr 2012 so they must have had Windows 8 in mind. I installed the driver forst then the card and let Windoes enumerate it. Pleased I got this one as it is outperforming the TP-Link that I am womdering if it was faulty.
