I'm new to eightfourms so please bear with me. I have an Asus S56C ultrabook with Win 8 – upgraded to 8.1. I used Acronis 2014 to clone the original mechanical hard drive to anew Samsung SSD 850 EVO drive. The clone procedure seemed to go smoothly until I looked at diskmanagment. Somehow I now have two partitions C & D. Attached is the screen shot of the SSD drive. What I want to do is repartition the drive into only one partition "C" but I don't know how to proceed. Can this be done, if so can you tell me how to accomplish this?

The two main NTFS partitions are labeled OS and Data -- so it's very unlikely the Data partition is a second OS partition.

You need to see what's in the Data partition. Open it with File Manager and look for folders like Boot and Windows. If you don't see those, it is not a second OS partition.

Oh, and Boot is a hidden folder, so you'll have to change the options in File Manager to show hidden files and folders.

Mark, the real question is how to get rid of the 350MB partition between C: and D: so they can be combined into a single partition. If D: has anything on it it would be only data, no OS files.

The 350 has Healthy, Rec... (can't read rest of it) so what happens if he just deletes it? What does he lose?
Can it be relocated after D: once C: and D: are merged and if so, will it still be useable?

Refresh/Reset features no longer function.

Here's my Lenovo laptop.

Windows 8.1 (after Windows 8.1 update from the Windows Store)

Partition 1 - Recovery - 1000 MB
Partition 2 - System - 260 MB
Partition 3 - OEM - 1000 MB - OEM partition does not exist in all OEM computers.
Partition 4 - Reserved - 128 MB - Note: This partition not visible within Disk Management.
Partition 5 - Primary - 908 GB
Partition 6 - Recovery - 350 MB or 450 MB - Windows RE location Note: This is a new partition.
Partition 7 - Recovery - 20 GB - Recovery image location

Gary uses Acronis for image backup so losing Refresh/Reset is no big deal.

What partitioning software is recommended? Ive used

AOMEI Partition Assistant
Gparted
Easus Partition Manager

Process would be:

Delete 350MB partition
Delete D: partition
Extend C: to include space from both

Sound right?

Yes, sounds right. Any of those part managers should be fine. Aomei is easy to use.

If the D drive and 350M drive next to C:drive don't have valuble data, you can delete them and extend C:drive with Windows Disk Management. If you don't want to delete these two partitions, you can use third party software to do this, The function Merge Partition of AOMEI Partition Assistant will do this trick without data loss.
