All USB mice/keyboards work in UEFI, but none in Windows!!

Fortunately, Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse works in both. In Windows, no USB mouse moves the arrow, although the mouse "light" shows they are getting electrical power. USB thumbdrives work on same usb ports that Usb mice do not. (Does this definitively mean that the problem is the Windows software and not the motherboard?)

Have checked all HID and USB entries in Device manager, tried driver updates and disables on all except Logitech. Have tried disconnecting ALL usb connections, rebooting, and subsequently plugging in USB mice/keyboards. Changed USB slots, etc. Tried Gigibyte Aivia usb keyboard and a Best Buy wireless Keyboard, and many other brands of keyboards/mice. Nada.

Could the installed wireless Logitech drivers be blocking all other keyboards and mice, including a Logitech wired USB keyboard which also does not work? I have yet to delete all the logitech drivers because I am worried I could not get back into to Windows to reenable the Logitech mice and keyboard that I need to do my work!!

Have ordered PS/2 card to try but this not here for 2 weeks, and doubt this make a difference. Found suggestion to change Asus UEFI bios settings of USB, but have tested and changes have had no effect.

After checking, there are no problems reported in SFC/scannow, or chkdsk/f, or Dism /online /clean-up /restorehealth. Have tried Windows CD and automatic repair.

Wondering if deleting upperfilters and/or lowerfilters in registry might be worth a try?

In a few weeks, will upgrade to Windows 10. Will this fix this problem?????

Getting pretty desperate.

Bill

PS. This my first ever such trouble post. Posted it on "Tech Support Guy" and since day before yesterday have gotten over 100 viewers but zero comments/suggestions. Hoping someone here might have some ideas or suggestions.

I am on Win 8.1 and I had the exact thing happen last week after installing a major Windows grouping of patches on my home HP PC.

The USB ports still recognize and load a USB memory stick so I don't think it's a USB problem and the keyboard and mouse do work in UEFI.

I notice that I have no mouse or keyboard drivers or INF files and I have seen differing information on whether they are required under Win 8.x. Some threads indicate the the human interface driver replaces these and other seem to imply that they still are needed.

My work laptop (which is also 8.1) has mouse and keyboard drivers and INFs.

Wondering if anyone can comment on this as I am desperate enough to consider simply copying these to my PC and I am really beyond my level of technical knowledge.

That sounds pretty annoying to say the least.

Try removing the logitech drivers from the registry if you're feeling lucky.

You can mount your registry hives from regedit running under WinPE (recovery/install mode)

You want this hive:

C:\Windows\System32\config\SYSTEM

And look for these keys:
[SYSTEM Hive Mountpoint]\ControlSet001\Services\<logitech driver>

Iwonder,
I am pretty sure that my problems also started with a windows update. AND, i now cannot get Windows updates,
KB3013731
KB3029606
that deal with Hardware problems and Bluetooth. I have tried all the suggestions on the web.

Hydranix,
I will see if I can do your WinPE suggestion over the weekend.

However, in light of the windows update problem, I may just skip to me trying a "Restore Install". If you have suggestions about this, I would love to hear them. What I have read about them on the web concerns me since I have found two procedures, but little if any info on "success."

Thanks to both of you.

Bill
