Hi I have a Dell Inspiron late 2011 model on which I recently installed Windows 8.1 32 bit. Soon after the installation, the system started crashing frequently showing BSOD. I got a new computer for myself, but now I am unable to access the hard drive from the old Dell one. When plugged in another computer, it says file system "other" under the disk management section. Moreover, whereas the hard drive had two partitions, now it's showing just one single partition and is asking me to 'format it before using it'. The hard drive is shown to be 'healthy' though. I have very important data in the hard drive, and I don't want to lose it.. Could somebody please help?

The OTHER drive is a hard drive partition which has not been formatted with the file system neither FAT12/FAT16/FAT32 nor NTFS/NTFS5. The OTHER drive can be caused by a number of reasons such as virus infection, format failure, accidentally shut down operating system, power outages, etc. When you access the OTHER drive, you will get an error message like "The disk in drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?". In this situation, if we click "No", the drive cannot be accessed. On the contrary, if we click "Yes", we will lose all of the files stored on this drive. I suggest you try some data recovery software.

Thanks for your reply mysery126. Finally, it's solved. Using the hard drive on a different computer let me access the data. Probably just some issue with the computer.
Thanks!
