Hi,

1st off sorry if this has be told before,

I have a 250gb external hdd which now only show 100mb.

It was an old hdd out of an old 7 laptop (which got accidently dropped and insurance replaced) I asked for the hdd back, which when I got it back was fine and working well, I did a quick format and not used it for over a year,

come to use it now to store movies and pictures on and it say volume 100mb?

How do I get the rest back?

Cheers

Can you see it in Disk Management? (right click on My Computer and select Manage, then go to Storage > Disk Management). Disk Management (What It Is and How To Use It)
Is it showing the drive? Does it show the total disk size?

I suspect that you see two partitions (sections) when looking at your drive in Drive Manager. One section with the 100MB and another section showing the remainder (unused 240GB portion). If you can post the picture it would be easier to help you.

There's no letter assigned to the 232.79GB partition so it is hidden. From disk management, right click on it and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths..." then Click on Change on the next screen then assign to any available letter on the next screen.

EDIT: Looking at the picture, it tells me that this disk contains your old "Windows 7 OS". It is better to wipe out everything and start it fresh:

  1. Open Admin Command Prompt: Win+X->Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. diskpart
  3. list disk
  4. select disk # where # is disk # of the disk that has ~238GB in size.
  5. clean
  6. exit
  7. exit.

Open Disk Management again, it should pop up a Windows asking you to initialize the disk, take all default then create a simple Volume. The disk should be ready for use.
