New Replacement Battery - Is this range of life sensible?

Hello,

I purchased a new replacement HP battery (4400mAh) for my HP G6-2219SA, it lasts apx 2h30 to 3h on powersaving mode, streaming videos and browsing- is this sensible?
Additionally, upon using HP Support Assistant to determine strength of battery, it indicated that the battery is 260 days old on first day of usage - is this normal?

Your advice would be highly appreciated!

Many thanks

I have the same battery in my Dell laptop which is now 4+ years old. Your mileage will vary. But less than year - to me - is a defective battery.

Did you buy the battery from HP? I've heard of grey market (counterfeit) batteries being sold off E-bay and Amazon.
Is your charger from HP? An aftermarket cheap battery charger could be overcharging or charging at a higher rate than it should.

Hi CountryBumkin,

Thank you very much for your reply!

I purchased the replacement battery was from partmaster.co.uk - I did not replace my charger, it is the same one purchased with my HP laptop.

I have been contemplating returning the replacement battery, and purchasing one from HP. Should I?

Is the battery under warranty? If so, return it and get another. If this is the case and it costs you nothing, you can see if the replacement lasts longer. If there is no warranty, and you are paying, I would get a "genuine" replacement (either from HP or a trusted source).

My laptop is no longer under warranty. The replacement battery I purchased has a 14 day return period, so I could still return it, and instead purchase from HP.

So the 260 days old indication (from HP support assistant) on first day of battery use means its definitely defective?

If you purchase through third party companies. Especially not knowing if they are recycling used parts labeled as new or refurbished. Yes it is very likely that is a used battery. The question is, was it stated as New, Refurb on their website.

Check the price of a genuine HP battery and compare that to what you paid.
Just because the battery you bought is showing that it is 9 months old doesn't mean that it won't last 3 more years.

For example, if you paid $50 for the battery and a new HP battery is $150, then it might be worth it to just keep the battery you have and see how long it goes.
