Windows found driver ... but encountered an error

After installing the software for a Hantek 6022BE digital 'scope, Windows couldn't install its driver.
(The software covers several models, so when the unit is first plugged in it searches for the relevant driver.)

    It presented this window:

An enquiry to the manufacturers via email resulted in them sending a new driver. The original is named simply "Driver", the new one "Win8Driver".
I put the original one in a new folder and renamed the new one as "Driver".

Then, when I plugged in the unit, the Found New Hardware Wizard didn't open up.

I uninstalled everything "Hantek" which IObit's uninstaller could find and reinstalled the software. Isolated the original driver and replaced it with the renamed new one, but the Hardware Wizard still doesn't open.

Further email to the manufacturer has not received a response.

    Can anyone help please?

There appears to be a corruption in the driver store on your Windows Image.

Open an elevated command prompt in Administrator mode

    type sfc -scannow

The system file checker will check the driver and component store for errors and will attempt to repair them.

If SFC finds errors, but cannot repair them, then you will need to use DISM to scan the health of your computer image.

    Type

    DISM /online /Cleanup-Image /scanhealth

this will determine if your component store is repairable.

    then type

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

This will attempt to restore the system files with known good ones.

If this doesn't help, then you will need to possibly Refresh or Reinstall Windows.

I thought that the system file checker looked for and examined Microsoft's Windows files. The inference I draw from what you say is that it also checks for additional, third party, drivers. Is that so?

It's technically the same thing, as SFC will check system files and driver corruptions.

Thank you lmaneke, that's repaired the component store.

I will have to reinstall the Hantek software, but what to do with the new driver? Do I have to rename it as I described in the first post?

I don't think so. Is the driver installation using a setup program? If so, just use that to install. Shouldn't have to rename it as Windows should see it as an updated driver, unless you want to rename it so you know it's a win 8 driver.

I also see you are using IO bit. I've never been a fan of that program, as I had to redo a win 8 installation because system care removed Windows files thinking they were virus. System was completely unusuable, and needed to be reinstalled. Although not everybody has that problem with IO bit.

Glad that got that repaired. Hope it works.

I'm not quite sure what you are asking.

The software has initially to be installed before the hardware is connected. On first connection, the software searches for the correct driver. When I encountered the problem and subsequently received the updated driver, I looked in the Hantek folder in C/Pogram files (x86) and saw a Driver folder. No other folder had the word "driver" in its name.

I have just put the software disk in the optical drive to check what's there. Surprisingly I see one folder named Driver and another folder named Win8Driver. They both must have been there all the time, and the Win8 one was not recognised .

A little later this evening I will start again and see what happens.

Ah, yes. I have used System Care in the past on my XP machines. I thought it good initially, but stopped using for reasons which I forget now. But I have read elsewhere of problems with it.
When I have had to reinstall IObit's uninstaller I've made sure that I uncheck the difficult to read offer to install System Care too.
Do you know of any concerns about the Uninstaller itself?

Glad that got that repaired. Hope it works.
    Thank you for your help.

I'm not knowledgeable about, or comfortable with, command line syntax but I shall copy the commands you gave so that I can use them again if I experience anything similar.

Usually there are websites that the hardware manufacturer has where you can find product support. Like for your hantek product, if you find the product model and you can find drivers through their website. Usually it's downloaded as a setup program like setup.exe or something of that nature. Sometimes the driver is put in a zip file where you can extract the setup or the drivers are in a folder that you can use device manager or the add hardware to load the drivers. Not sure if it makes sense, but hope that helps.

The software has been reinstalled. The driver in the Hantek folder was simply "Driver", so I pasted the Win8Driver folder in the Hantek folder too, but there has been no change.
When the unit was plugged in there was some other activity, but no advice/warning screens., nothing to say that new hardware had been detected.

The green l.e.d. on the unit does not light up, and needless to say it doesn't work.

Hantek's site doesn't appear to offer driver, or any other software downloads. But since they did send what should be the correct driver I don't see that is important.

In view of their inability or unwillingness to respond to requests for help I am tempted to throw the damned thing in the trash.

It's a possibility it could be a bad unit. Do you have another computer or have a friend that has a pc to test. Always troubleshoot before throwing something away. If it is a hardware failure then they would have to authorize a RMA
