    Touchpad Drivers

I am having an issue with the touch-pad on a Toshiba Satellite C75D-B7200. I read that the solution was to uninstall the driver and just use the Windows driver. When I uninstall the the driver it keeps coming back. Not sure how to accomplished what I read. Anyone have any ideas?

It's going to install "a" driver automatically if you uninstall the current one. It will pull one from Windows update if one is available. Are you sure that's not the one being installed?

When I look in Device Manager and the properties of the driver it says the provider is Synaptics. If I uninstall it the pad works flawlessly. If you get Microsoft updates installed, the same driver installs. I looked at view update history and did not see anything about Synaptics. I have to find out how to keep it from reinstalling. Like I said the updates did not show anything about a driver. The is one however in the non important updates, but these require manual install.

You have to completely uninstall the device along with all drivers. Then have a USB mouse plugged in before rebooting. To either let Windows discover the touchpad or install Toshiba's driver from their support side.

Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > hardware tab > Driver installation settings, Change it to No, let me decide what to do.

I guess there is no way to prevent the Synaptics driver from loading. It sees the device and automatically installs. The sad part is as soon as it installs I loose the ability to use the touch-pad. I entered safe mode and the touch-pad works. Its just got me baffled.

I don't have any other ideas at the moment.

First of all my apologies for my post after yours. I did not see it and was just adding more information. Now for some good news:

I did what you said and it seems to be working. By doing what you said the Microsoft driver loaded and is working just great. I am not a fan of updating drivers anyway. I have seen more issues when updating drivers automatically. I can't recall when updating a driver actually resolved a problem. My research tells me if its not broke don't fix it. Thank you for your help.\

I'll let it go till the morning then come back and mark solved.

5/29/15: Today it is still working great. One additional step was to hide the update for the Synaptics driver. When the laptop checks for Windows updates it will include the driver therefore I had to hide it to prevent it from loading.

Thanks again for all your help.

If you have another mouse or pointer device plugged into the USB port, it can be set to disable the touchpad. Some computers just have really bad touchpads. The Acer Aspire Netbook is one of them.

In my case the touch-pad did not work even though the a plugged in mouse. Now the touch-pad works great regardless if a plugged in mouse is present or not. Thanks for your post. I did not know what you posted, so thank you.
