USB drive 'deleting' files

I recently bought two 8 GB USB drives to store mp3 files. I can copy all the files across to them okay but if ejected and plugged into my laptop again only about half the artist folders are on the drive and only about half of those contain any files. This happens with both USB drives. Any ideas as to what's going on? Are the drives just duff?

Yes, every time. They were only cheap ones off ebay (new, not used), and they both do the same thing, so I'm wondering if they're just dudd. I've tried putting the files on another drive and it works fine.

Faked capacity USB key drives. Lower capacity drives probably of poor quality with software/firmware that makes them look like 8 GB. So they can sell them at a higher price.
I would not buy that sort of product off Ebay, only a reputable supplier.

8 GB drives are pretty inexpensive anyway so why not just buy at a local retailer.
