    SD card options

I am not familiar with Windows 8 but an elderly friend is struggling with his computer and we hoped to be able to find the answer to his problems. With our windows 7 computer we insert an SD card and a box comes up asking whether we want to import the pictures or videos. We click on import and the pictures are saved to the C drive in a folder titled with the current date and the folder opens up. We then work our way through the contents of the folder deleting the poor photos.

We have tried all the "Autoplay" options on his Windows 8 computer but when we put an SD card in his computer it either plays the pictures from the card or does not but none of the options give the option of saving the files from the SD card to a folder on the computer and open the folder so you can view the new files.

I am sure Windows 8 cannot have lost this basic facility from windows 7. So please could someone tell me how to set up his computer like ours.

I was working with a lady just today having a similar issue but it was a third-party software that came with the computer that was messing her up. Uninstalled that program then she could deal with the card.

Of course all can be done in w8, but to make things look familiar am recommending Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements
Gives back the w7 start menu, click 'This PC' and access the SD card from there.

Classic shell is not needed to be able to access My PC. Simply select the option "Open folder to view files" from the menu that pops up.

However, the closest option that the OP is asking for is probably the "Import photos and videos".

Thank you everyone for your responses

I presume Strollin was referring to the Autoplay menu. We did try the option on the Autoplay menu that suggested it would import the photos but it did not work. I wondered whether perhaps the computer was set up to save the files to the cloud and was failing because it had no internet connection.
It is unlikely that the problem is due to other software because he has no other software running.
Any further suggestions would be appreciated.
