Optical drive file list won't refresh

Weird problem, my optical drive file list won't refresh. After removing a disc I've burned and inserting a new disc, file explorer still shows the content of the previous disc before the blank was inserted. Refreshing the folder does no good. I can navigate through the entire folder tree as if the disc is still in the drive, I just can't (of course) access any of the files because they aren't on the blank disc. If I cycle the tray while I have it open in explorer, it will refresh, but nothing short of that works. And it apparently isn't refreshing unless that window is in the forefront too. It's not refreshing when I insert the blank while not simultaneously monitoring the folder. Any suggestions?? I'm kind of new to Win8, but this just seems wrong no matter what version you're accustomed to.
