Cloning SSHD to SSD Windows 8

    Hey guys,

I need someones insight on my current situation,

I have a newer dell laptop and I have purchased a 512gb crucial ssd to replace the current hdd, after looking around i figured it would be relatively easy to clone and upgrade my current hdd, what i did not anticipate was that my current hdd is one of those sshd hybrid drives where it is 1000gb with 8gb of flash storage. It seems to be causing problems cause i tried cloning the c: partition to my new hard drive and swapping the hdd and booting, upon startup i just get a blue screen saying checking media and then an error, but when i swap back to my old one it works normally. Has anyone here had to deal with this before? All i want to do is keep my files and os and get the new drive working and it is proving problematic, there's not a lot of information online pertaining to this problem and anyones input would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    JR

If your SSHD is larger capacity then you won't be able to clone even your SSHD contains hardly any data. If not, download:
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bx...dVE&authuser=0
then put it in a USB stick using: Rufus - Create bootable USB then boot up from it, follow the screen and select clone.
If it is larger then use the same USB above to make a backup image of the SSHD to another external HD then restore to the SSD.

The flash storage portion of the SSHD is only 8gb with 1000gb of traditional mechanical memory. All my files add up to about 209gb in total so it should be able to fit on the ssd, or do i still have to go the backup image route instead of clone?

Just did this a few weeks back. I simply shrank the partition on the bigger SSHD to a size the SSD would accept. Did have to backup and remove some larger files to get it small enough.

EDIT: I used CloneZilla. I've used it in the past and had good luck with it, worked perfect this time also. The interface is maybe not for the novice though.

A good way to defrag the hdd befor shrinking so it will be small as possible is to temporally shut of pagefile and system restore so they getdeleted, then defrag or better yet make a system image and then reimage(not bit for bit though) and then you can get smaller partition that will fit even on a 120GB disk. I dhad to do this for my old laptop.

not concerned with size of the partition as i can shrink that, but is there something in the flash needed to boot properly? I'm trying to understand the error im getting after the clone and i try to boot from ssd

What did you use to clone? Should clone the main partition and the UEFI at least, the other recovery ones also if you want recovery.
