Solved Can I disable startup things for drivers

Hi

I was wondering, can I disable the startup applications for certain drivers like the Intel RST/Chipset drivers and the Realtek Audio manager?

Basically what i'm asking, is the driver contingent on the startup program, or does it run otherwise via a service or something of the sorts. I figure since I never interact with those startup apps, if they can be disabled, I will disable them.

You can usually safely disable them, since they only provide GUI for drivers, which run as services.

I only really need GUI for my graphics drivers. Everything else i never open. And if I did need to, i'm sure I could open it when required vs having it take up resources at startup.

Take care when turning of auto startup even for setting programs for drivers, some provide valuable information to system as to how and what additional settings for that device may be. You can try turning them off in startup and see if anything is amiss. It's just as easy to turn them back on without loosing anything. Some (like for BT) do not use much/any system resources until actually switched on/plugged in or otherwise activated.

Thanks. I disabled a couple on my laptop this morning, doesn't seem to make a difference..... I think for whatever reason I wasn't supposed to install Intel RST on my laptop. When i reinstalled I just downloaded all of the drivers from the Dell site and installed them hoping for the best, LOL. I plan on using this site to find the proper chipset drivers when my new laptop comes instead of just blindly installing factory ones. I'll probably only install the touchpad and card reader drivers from the Dell site from now on. :)

If it comes with OEM Windows it's bound to be full of other junkware.

Yes. Thats why as soon as I get a new computer the first thing I do (after making recovery media *just in case*) is reinstall Windows without all the crap. The only downside is possibly driver issues if you install the wrong drivers (or in my case, drivers it seems you don't need). But still obviously better than having a buggy, bloated system ;)
