Hi all,

First, this is my first post, so be gentle with me. :dinesh:

In Windows 7 Ultimate 64, all three of my hard drives show up and with data on each one.
Also, my two bluray drives show up and function.

In Windows 8 Consumer, only two drives show up with data. The third shows, but it is not formatted, so can not use it. If I try, it tells me to format it before use.
Also, my first bluray player does not show up, only the second one.

I go back to Win 7, and all show and functions.

Any ideas on this?

Take care........

Hi and welcome,

It will make it easier for us to make suggestions if we have more information. Please run Disk Management in both Windows 7 and Windows 8 and make a screenshot of each.

Also, in Windows 8, type msinfo32 in the Start screen then press Enter. File | Save on the opened screen. Then in Windows Explorer, right click the saved file and choose Send To>>>Compressed (Zip) folder. Attach this to a new post when also adding the 2 screenshots above.

We will see what's going on with it all.

Hi GMan,

Thanx for the Welcome.

I have already run Disk Man on both Win 7 and Win 8.
In Win 7 all three drives and blurays show up.
In Win 8, the third hard drive show as "Raw", and only the second blueray shows.

As far as msinfo32, will get back in the morn with that.

Take care, and thanx for the reply!!...........

Recommend Acronis Disk Director to change the E: drive over to a Primary partition, and set it as active, from within Windows 7.

Of course, backup anything important first, but it should all go well for you without issues. Disable any 3rd party antivirus or security suite before doing anything.

A free alternative that can probably do the same thing is GParted live.

Also to do: In Windows 8, install the latest proprietary storage driver for your motherboard, from the manufacturer's website. Use Device Manager if necessary.

Hi again,

I am confused:
When I was using the Win 8 Dev Version, all showed and worked fine.
Now in Consumer Version, it does not.
That does not make any sense to me.

Also, one of the Blurays still does not show.

Take care.........

Out of interest, I'm assuming these disks/drives are on different controllers, can you provide any information on how they're configured, i.e., which disks/drives are on which controllers.

Hi Calico,

Thank you for the response.

The C: drive is on SATA 1 controller, D: drive is on SATA 2 controller, and the E: drive is on SATA 5 controller.
My two bluray players are on SATA 3 and SATA 4 controllers
I hope that is what you are asking.

All three are formatted to NTFS files.

Just for grins and giggles, I converted the non working E: drive from NTFS to FAT32, and lo and behold, it now shows and is working perfectly. Go figure.

The first bluray still does not show, but I made some progress, with the drives anyway.

Take care.........

Hi GMan,

Because, when I attempted to change to it active, I got message that my OS drive would no longer be active and it would not boot there.
Certainly did not want to not be able to boot.

This may not be the best "fix", but it does work.

Changing the drive to how I said would definitely not affect the other drives and their current active partitions.

You misunderstood the program's warning or were attempting to do something wrong.

It was probably warning you in case there was an OS on that drive.

Glad you sorted though. Recommend NTFS.

I would suggest converting your newly formatted FAT32 volume to NTFS and running a chkdsk. To convert the volume use:

1. Open an Administrative Command prompt
2. Type - convert E: /fs:ntfs - Where E is the volume identifier.

For the chkdsk:

1. Open an Administrative command prompt
2. Type - chkdsk /f

If it suggests the volume is locked, choose the option to schedule the chkdsk for the next boot. You can 'unmount' the volume manually, but it's better if the process runs at boot time.
