    Cant disable driver signatures

    Hi

I have a freshly imaged and activated copy of Windows 8.1 Pro x64 on my computer, and I need to disable the driver signatures in order to use the Motionjoy driver for PS3 controllers for Windows. I tried to do it via Charms-->Change PC Settings-->Update and Recovery-->Advanced Startup--->Change Windows Startup settings but when it reboots to the screen that asks you to press F7 to disable signature enforcement, the computer just freezes, and after 30-40 seconds turns off on its own. When I turn it back on it just boots up like nothing happened.

I've also tried getting to the Change Windows Startup thing by running shutdown -r -o -t 0 but the same result ensued. I also tried via group policy as per a suggestion on the internet but that didn't work because the policy in question was only valid for Windows XP, Server 2003, and Windows 2000! (Why it was in Win8.1 Group Policy totally escapes me)

Thanks for any assistance in advance.

Pressing the F7 or number key 7 in advanced startup settings should boot the PC with signatures disabled. If this does not happen it is most often because the UEFI Secure Boot in BIOS / UEFI settings is enabled. The UEFI Secure Boot must be disabled in order to be able to disable driver signatures.

Hello Maltesespace, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you like, you could enable Test Mode to not have driver signatures enforced by using the command below instead in OPTOIN ONE of the tutorial below.

    bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON

“Test Mode Windows 8.1 Build 9600" Watermark - Remove

Thanks Kari! I have already disabled Secure boot though, one of the first things I did after building the computer. So that shouldn't have been an issue.

Thanks Brink. I will try that. Would I have to run in Test Mode every time I wanted to use that particular driver though?

Thanks Brink! I used your suggestion and used Test Mode, and the driver install went without a hitch. After turning off test mode and opening the program, it seems to be working fine without test mode enabled. Fingers crossed it will work in game.

    Thanks for your help!
