Hi there to everyone reading my post . I am a newbie to this forum and I need some help :-

1) on my viewsonic viewpad 10 tablet , it comes with windows 7 home premium . I have been able to use readyboost on Windows 7 , recently I have update to w8 consumer preview and also able to use readyboost with my sandisk 4gb thumbdrive like before , but after a few times of shut down and boot up my w8 , now I cant use the same usb thumbdrive as readyboost , it say :- this computer is not enable to use readyboost because it is fast enough already ! I don't understand why I can use it the first few times and after that I cannot continue to use it again . Can any expert please help me out on this problem as I would very much like to run readyboost even though it speeds up just a little bit , I don't mind .

2) when in windows 7 , inside my mobility center ,there is a switch for WiFi on and off . But after I installed windows 8 , inside my mobility center , the whole WiFi box is missing , there is no more WiFi on/off switch there ! Is there any way to set the WiFi switch back into this mobility center as this switch is important for me to use daily ?

Many thanks and best regards to all , cheers - Jim

Hi,

Format the Sandisk first to exFAT and then try to enable Readyboost again.

If you have it attached to a 3.0 port, install the latest USB 3.0 driver from the motherboard manufacturer's site.

If it is attached to 2.0, install the latest chipset driver package from the motherboard site.

Updating the motherboard bios to latest is always good.

Gman ,

I have formatted my sandisk to exfat , but still it says :-

This device cannot be used for ReadyBoost . ReadyBoost is not enabled because this computer is fast enough that ReadyBoost is unlikely to provide additional benefit .

I will try update drivers then .

I don't feel like searching for you at the moment - please don't take that as anything negative as I don't mean that - I mean it's easier for you than me right now lol. :)

That being said, you can edit the registry to accept the Flash drive to be useful for Readyboost. If you Google how to, you can find the appropriate edit(s).

Alright ya, the above advice would have worked well but I thought of something even better. Remove the device from the machine.

Then open Regedit and make a backup of this key in case you mess up. If you do mess up, you can just restore the key you saved by merging it (double clicking on saved file in Windows Explorer):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR

Then after the backup, simply find the subkey in there responsible for your SanDisk. Delete the subkey. Reboot. Attach the device. It will be tested as new hardware and will work fine.

(You might have to delete the subkey from safe mode after taking ownership of its permissions there too.)

This will do the trick for you: USB drive or flash problems? How to cleanup and remove old USB storage drivers - TechSpot Forums

Don't forget to right click on the .exe and choose Run as Administrator.

Don't worry about their instructions. Just remove device from machine, Run as Admin by right clicking the .exe, done.

Dear Gman ,

Thank you for your reply and information given , but however , i have done everything you have instructed accordingly , i managed to cleanup and remove all old Usb storage drivers , i then plugged in my Sandisk Cruzer ( Formatted to Fat32 ) to try set up ReadyBoost but i still unable to do so , it replied the same :- " This device cannot be used for ReadyBoost because this computer is fast enough that ReadyBoost is unlikely to provide additional benefit " .

1) I wondered why ReadyBoost can work well in Windows 7 for the same Cruzer the same Fat 32 but after upgrading to Windows 8 it worked for a short few times and then it stopped to work with reason given computer is fast enough now ?

2) Could it be after upgrading to W8 , the computer thought the hard drive is a normal spin drive and later after a few shut down / boot ups plus playing with it for a few hours , it detected the hard drive is actually a SSD 16gb ? Hence the disabling of ReadyBoost sets in .

3) I wanted to activate the readyBoost because - one) I done it before in this same computer and it worked flawlessly a few times and I think it runs a little faster ( I think only and I may not be right ) with readyboost .
two) I always find it hard to let go when i dont know why things can work in the first place and it stopped working the next .

It is a most intriguing puzzle for a device of only 16gb size memory to be so complicated to solve !
But i still believe there is someone out there knows and have experienced this before and have solved the problem . Maybe i just need to reinstall the whole Windows 8 OS again ...

But thanks anyway for your valueable info and the time taken for you to dig out these infos for me , much appreciated - jim

Format the SanDisk to exFAT as previously advised. Take the SanDisk out of machine. Run the tool as Admin. Reboot for good measure. Put SanDisk in machine. See if ReadyBoost works. If not, try again not to format to exFAT.

Hopefully, you also followed advice about drivers in my first post here?

Anyhow - based on that message you said which I have never heard of before actually, if you have about 2 GB or more of RAM in the machine, Readyboost is basically useless.

It works good for machines with 1 GB or less, and is increasing less useful as the amount increases.

So I personally wouldn't bother with it at all if you have a good amount of memory.

Ya, I just checked on the specs of your machine and it has 2 GB of DDR3 ram. My advice is to forget about Readyboost completely, as it is not going to do anything positive for you anyhow:

Viewsonic » ViewPad 10 Tablet | VPAD10

I also have 2 GB ram at only DDR spec, which is worlds slower than yours, and regular hard drives too. Readyboost on a SanDisk does not increase my performance in any way.

So with that info, hope you enjoy. :)

Apparently, it has an SSD too. If so, there's even less need for readyboost.

Dear Gman and Calico ,

Mine is Viewsonic Viewpad 10 , 16gb ssd , 1gb ram only , wifi only . It is the starting / basic model or the cheapest W8 tablet i bought - from a good gadget friend of mine for Usd112 only , on for 5 times only by him , he hardly use it at all because he has many other gadgets to play with , suprisingly with W8 this basic atom tablet seems to run so smooth and i am impressed with it's capabilities , making me feel W8 tablets will be a thing to stay for many years to come , i also have ipad 1 64gb wifi and 3g and cydia , it's working fine even now , so now i have the best of both world because with vpad w8 , i can plug in any usb windows accessories and run easily , which ios cant give me that . I can imagine by coming December many iCores w8 tablets will be out by then and it should be cheaper as competition is keen , just imagining the speed iCores tablet can go !

So that's why i hope to fix this funny problem , it should be able to be corrected because it works in the first place - that's my opinion . Many thanks again for your advise and comments , cheers - jim

Unless Viewsonic took a different version off the market or something, both of the Viewpad 10 models have 2 GB DDR3:

MEMORY
VPAD10_AHUS_05: 2GB DDR3, 16GB SSD VPAD10_APUS_05: 2GB DDR3, 32GB SSD

Gman ,

Regarding the update of drivers , I have only done so for this :-

Device manager > Network Adapters > 1) Microsoft Kernel Debug Network Adapter - Drivers updated and working properly
2) Qualcomm Atheros AR9002WB-1NG Wireless Network Adapter - Drivers updated and working properly , PowerManagement Off
