How do I permanently disable the pop up keyboard?

Yes, I know how to disable the STUPID pop up keyboard that I will NEVER, EVER use. I hate that thing with a passion.

Anyway, yes I how to go into "services" and then right click "touch keyboard handwriting panel services" and change "start" to "stop" and then double click it and change "automatic" to "manual". Yep, I got that.

    That works.

But that only works for a short time (maybe half an hour if I'm lucky) and then the &$%#@ keyboard starts popping up again and I go back in the settings and GUESS WHAT? The settings have defaulted back to "start" and "automatic".

This is making me completely insane to the point where I am ready to return my new computer. I've had it for about six weeks and I am not loving Windows 8 with the touch screen. I not only hate that touch keyboard popping up, but I hate the side bar that comes up when I barely wave my hand towards the side of the screen. Basically I don't want anything popping up at me while I'm working!

    Help please!!

Hello lisalu, and welcome to Eight Forums.

After doing the tutorial below, you could then completely disable the Touch Keyboard itself by repeating step 4 for the TabTip.exe file.

Wow! Okay, I'm willing to try that. It sounds kind of complicated, but if I can pull it off I'll let you know. Thanks!

Yeah, there's a few hoops to jump through to get it to work, but as long you do each step in the tutorial, you should be fine. If you have any questions or problems, please feel free to ask away.

Okay, the part about "change the owner" and "set permissions" for TipBand.dll is confusing. When I click on that file, that is not one of the options...

Okay, yeah, I don't think I can do this. WAY outside of my skill set! This here: Take Ownership of a File, Folder, Drive, or Registry Key in Windows 8

That's ok. You could use the tutorial below to add "Take Ownership" to the context menu.

Take Ownership - Add to Context Menu in Windows 8

Afterwards, you could just right click on the file and click on "Take Ownership" to automatically change the owner of the file to your account, and set the file's permissions to "Allow" you "Full Control".

Well first, thank you, I did the download so I could get the option to "change ownership". So I guess I got that. But as far as setting the permissions? No way can I follow those directions! At this point I am in tears. The *$&#% keyboard keeps popping up and I am looking at your directions to set the permissions and there is just no way I can do that. (I feel stupid, but I don't understand it at all!)

I just want to stop a stupid keyboard from popping up - and I have to reprogram my system to do it. I hate W8!

When you click on "Take Ownership" in the context menu of the file, that should be all that you have to do other than rename the file. It automatically changes the owner to your account, and gives "Administrators" full control permission.

I understand your frustration (from the limited touch experience I've had) ... but does setting that service as disabled rather than manual, have the same effect?

Nar, disabling the Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service service doesn't seem to affect the toolbar.
