You just need to change the pointer speed. The only reason there would be lag, is that you are running more programs than the CPU & RAM can handle.

na the comp is running lean (about 15% load at the moment)

the mouse moves fine for a moment then stops
some times it catches up in a moment others it just sits there till I move again
I have avoided optical mice since they cam out for this vary reason
    jerky/spoty performance
every time I try one it's the same thing

I ordered 3 mice that I like on ebay but he sent me the wrong mice and when I told him about it the guy refunded and blocked me from buying again
he is the only one that has what I want
so im trying to make a new opticall one work
but im not at all pleased with it's hit and miss performance
it's like trying to read a book when 1 out of 5 letters are either out of place or just missing

took a good 2 seconds to get the mouse to move again after typing this

I moved the receiver closer to my mouse (about 2.5 feet now)
    seems fine so far

Should have said it was a cordless mouse, I was just about to ask if it was. There's noway to change resources for just one thing. It's only between programs and background services.

And besides, HIDs (human input devices - keyboards, mice, touch screens) takes next to nothing in terms of resources anyway.

Your mouse should not need to be that close to the receiver to work right. Are they fresh batteries? You said this is new, but that does not mean the batteries that came with the mouse didn't sit on the shelf for a long time, or that they are good quality.

Make sure the receiver is fully inserted in the port and route any power and video cables away from the receiver as much as possible.

Also, make sure security programs are not too assertively set; such can and will interfere with smoothness of operations.

I don't know how or why you would change that - other than uninstalling one and installing a different, less resource hogging one.

I'm glad that this thread is here because I have been having the same problem with my wireless mouse.

we had a house fire here like 7-8 years ago before that my wireless mouse would work fine 20 feet a way
since then I have needed it within 2 feet
    makes no sence

when I got this new style I pluged it rate at the computer (about 7 feet away)
    seemed to work fine
always was some lag but I just blamed it on the optical/lazer

last few days it's been getting a lot worse (hard to use)
first thing I tried was changing the batteries (correction rebooting)
finally I plugged the receiver into the monitor USP port
    it's much improved now
    not 100% but close

I don't have any AV here
as I understand it win 8.1 has built in protection so I didn't bother with security programs
