What's my RAM type? Without opening the case

    Hello,
I wanted to know how can I find out my RAM type without opening the case.
I looked at Intel ARK website and looked at my CPU (i5 4210M) and it says that it supports DDR3L, but when I go to my laptop's manufacturer website it says DDR3.

    What's the real one?

*I also downloaded Crucial system scanner but by accident I chose to open it with Notepad, now everytime I run the System scanner .exe file, nothing happens. I think I should've chosen to open it with a web browser (Chrome or Explorer) - is there any way I can undo my selection and re choose to open it with a web browser?

    Thanks

Down load speccy from piriform and it'll tell you everything about your system including live temperatures and your Windows activation key hardware and software and drivers---everything you may want to know.

Just because the Processor supports DDR3L (low voltage) that doesn't mean that's what's installed. It could be normal DDR3 SODIM or the low voltage version. You'll likely have to open the access panel and look for a part number to look up. Are you planning on adding more RAM?

I was thinking about upgrading, not sure though
*Speccy says my RAM is DDR3

*Edit: I now think it is DDR3L after I just found some Lenovo manuals. and Speccy and other softwares don't differentiate between DDR3 and DDR3L.

**Edit #2: Isn't DDR3L backward compatible with DDR3? I mean, even if I purchase DDR3L and my laptop is DDR3, it should work?

I recommend to use the Crucial Scanner. That will tell you what the upgrade options are and what the price is.

As far as #2 goes running the lower voltage RAM at a higher voltage may not be a good idea? I would think it could overheat and damage it.

I already found my laptop using the Search in Crucial website, because the Crucial System Scanner is not working, maybe you know the fix? (although not so important now, because I already found the RAM I need):
When I first downloaded the Crucial System Scanner, I pressed the .exe file, and after 2 seconds a prompt asked me what do I want to open the following with: Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Notepad, and I accidentally pressed Notepad, so now everytime I run the .exe, instead of directing me to a web browser showing all the information, it just saves a "sysprofile" text file.
I tried to go to "Default Programs" to remove the Notepad default programs, but Notepad is not on the "Default Programs" list :/

Oh, I did not see the little arrow, now I found it ! Thank you
By the way, if I buy another 4GB stick with same specs, but different brand, will dual channel still work? If yes, can you please give me an example of one that would work?
    my current stick is :
    Type DDR3
    Size 4096 MBytes
    Manufacturer Samsung
    Max Bandwidth PC3-12800 (800 MHz)
    Part Number M471B5173QH0-YK0
    Serial Number 38C637CA
    Week/year 31 / 14

But it's hard to find another one.
(Maybe the best would be to get a new couple and sell this one, but just in case)
