Start off first by saying i have had USB 3.0 issues with speed, not performing at speeds should on my system. Other issue i am getting is only when i restart the PC, sometimes and not every time, at the BIOS logo screen i get a code B4 and computer will keep restarting. Looking up this code from GIGABYTE motherboard means USB Device Hot Plug-in. At times i have pulled about 1 USB 3.0 device out and will boot normally, sometimes it won't, again this is not happening every time. Usually normal restart on this screen show, A2 Code.

Checking the Event Viewer keeps showing many warnings about a Kernel PnP warning about a driver for USB i believe, not sure about this why i am here posting it. Here is log from Event Viewer :

Researching on this came with a solution, but not sure about this, how to do it correctly will it work. A post showed to set "Windows Driver Foundation" found in services.msc to Automatic start and delete all USB Hubs, then restart the PC which will reinstall the drivers again. "Windows Driver Foundation " in Windows 8.1 is normally set to manual (trigger). Going list all USB items in my USB Serial Bus Controllers. I do not know which to delete, just the USB Hub ones or plus USB root hub, as this shows 3. Plus also have USB 3.0 eXtensible one.

Possibly a driver issue only, as PC does not have issues in any other way, only with occasional restarts. Although other day when having a USB device connected on front port, i received blue screen with sad face, said PC had to restart, again checking event viewer showed this same error, no others in there at all. Rest PC working good.

Update on this thread. Talking to Gigabyte the manufacturer of my motherboard. Because of rebooting issues at times, actually what you can call it is a boot loop, on restarts it would keep rebooting to BIOS logo screen, over and over. Again this did not happen every time and only on restarts not cold boots, then would show this B4 Code in lower right corner of Bios Screen.

One Gigabyte rep. felt might be chip had a bent pin, i disagreed feeling if this was so, i would have issues while using PC for hours on end, which i don't, also mentioning PSU, again felt this would happen even when PC was running. System is new, PSU brand new, a good brand, 80plus gold.

Another suggestion from them was always risky BIOS update, now the one that came on the PC was originally dated back to Sept. 2014, there are 2 newer ones since then. I know this is a risk to try, first i tried to reflash original BIOS, did nothing to resolve boot loop.

I took my chances with newest BIOS out of frustration of trying to figure this out and no clues or answers to boot loop, plus when i hit delete key on BIOS screen at boot could not access the BIOS and same boot loop occurred.

New BIOS resolved all other problems, no more boot loop, no B4 code, i am able to access the BIOS and restarted many times since with no issues, but this Kernel PnP issue keeps showing up in Event Viewer and issues with USB 3.0 speeds still.

Thank you for all that have looked at this thread. Probably first time in 10 years or more i attempted a BIOS update, i was worried i would ruin this PC. So far, it's o.k. !

I've updated BIOS frequently over the years with different systems. Never bricked one. Maybe just lucky. Glad it worked out for you.

EDIT: The laptop I'm on now I've updated once.

Thanks Popeye, always heard the risks i guess, made me leery, got over my fears now of doing one
Still can not figure out this USB 3.0 and kernel PnP stuff, tried suggestion of deleting all root hubs rebooting to reinstall, did nothing of course but put in same ones, either Windows 8.1 issue or something up with ports for this board, not sure, another Gigabyte suggestion from tech there, he will look into it, get back to me, offered to RMA it, do not like that idea, taking apart everything. Maybe live with slower speeds !!

Even went to the Resident Alien here !! :geek:

Just received a lot of Windows updates too, glad it all went well.

Seems as though this Kernel PnP warning in Event viewer happens to many Windows 8.1 users and there is not much resolve. Either to do with drivers or windows 8.1 when it loads on startup failing load these drivers for USB, one believes due to fast startup or shutdown process in Windows 8.1 The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device - Microsoft Community

Maybe for me a new update will eventually help. Till i find it, still get errors, but all else is resolved.

Seems as though no one has a clue on this Kernel PnP warning here and how to fix it. As post has been up for quite sometime. I to am stumped to where else to look to find answers. Thank you for your time to look at this post. All else was solved but this warning.

I am also getting this new system all clean, over and over on startups I wonder if is these stupid apps? I have already removed 50-60% of them.

I see no use for them at all in my use.

This is also a 2 day fresh updated install of Win8.1 pro 64

well you removed something.. and that's the start of issues - or could create issues.

you need to test for at-least a week, a fresh install of windows without removing anything.. then if you get errors with a truly "fresh" install of windows, then you have proof that it's Microshot flawed Programming, and not you "removing" things.. Or "user" error..

Also ofcourse this can happen because of the "automatic updates" now by microshaft.. there is no denying that..
