how to set up printer with Leo Net router

I am trying to help a friend set up a wireless printer connection over the phone. I neither have, nor use Windows 8 on my home computer (Windows7). However, I have about six months experience as a Windows 8 user at work.

I believe we have a compatibility issue. The friend has Windows 8.1, HP3510 printer, and an Apple (ugh!) router which her son installed because he is an Apple diehard. She said the router is a Leo Net (spelling?) router.

We have managed to set up a wired connection for printing, but we have failed to compete wireless connection and scan functions. The printer formerly was fully functional using an AT&T router before the changeover to the Apple router. Currently, Internet functions are working properly in wireless mode. She spoke with HP customer NO service who told her that only HP could resolve the issues (for only $169). Based on my experience in seven forums, I believe I can achieve success here on this forum.

Please provide helpful step-by-step instructions which I can use as a standard Windows 8 user to help her.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you can set the SSID & Passphrase from the onboard menu of the printer, that is really all that is needed to get it online. Most printers only work with Wireless-b/g.

We have tried auto-connect from the printer. It offers WPS, but no connection is made. The SSID & passphrase to not show up. Do we need to remove the old AT&T router and try to add new printer from Control Panel? I am having a little trouble directing her over the phone without familiarity with Windows 8. How similar i it to Windows 7? Additional information would be helpful.

    Thanks.

Suggest you give her the link to the support site on hp.com for that printer. Setting it up is no different, regardless of the OS version you are using.

All the manuals and instructions from HP support have one thing in common. There comes a point where the instructions don't match what is seen on either the computer, the printer, or both. The real puzzler is that everything worked fine before the introduction of Apple products!

    other suggestions... ?

Yes they do match about the printer, along with the software that gets installed on the computer for the printer. Nothing has anything to do with Apple's products, so why even mention it.

It worked for wired, but not wireless. Maybe it is a communication problem over the phone with the friend, but there comes a point on each attempt where her description of what she sees does not match the corresponding step of the instructions. Maybe I should attempt to establish remote assistance. That should allow me to see what i going on.
