Wireless mouse and keyboard sometimes lag

I have the Microsoft Wireless Mouse (5000) & Comfort Keyboard (5000) . The USB receiver is currently in the side of the tower, less than a foot from the keyboard and mouse. Sometimes the mouse and keyboard will become very laggy, making it near impossible to use them. After a restart of Windows they tend to be ok until the next seemingly random time they act up again. I cannot correlate anything to cause this. It is happening now and this request has taken me over 5 minutes to type out.

Any ideas?

Windows 8.1 Pro (also happened on Windows 7)
Gaming PC, so RAM, SSD/HDD, processor, etc are all way above average
All drivers appear to be up to date
Router for wired/wireless internet is also nearby on desk - not sure if that matters

Multiple processes can cause that. Especially if you are doing CPU intense programs that are causing the lag.

Yeah thats the weird thing though...I wasn't doing anything intensive at all. I was reading a webpage in Chrome (1 tab) and all of the sudden, and even after restarting, the mouse and keyboard are laggy. No intensive stuff happening at all.

Chrome processes can still eat up a lot of cycles. Especially if you are on a poorly coded webpage. You can go to chrome://memory-redirect/ to see what is going on inside Chrome.
