Error When Updating Dell Wireless Card Driver

Hi All

I have a Dell Inspiron 3847 and my WiFi keeps disconnecting, after having a look around at other threads the consensus was that the latest Dec 2014 update for the Wireless 1705.802.11b/g/n (2.4GHZ) cures this. Just to add I get the exclamation mark on my WiFi and when I run the troubleshooter it repairs the error and fixes a problem with adapter or access point.

However when I try it gives me an error saying the driver cannot be installed, I have copied the Installation Log and pasted it below. This is the page where I got the driver:

I contacted Dell and they tried to install it remotely but could not and now they are saying that I need to do a complete OS install from scratch. When I asked if they're certain it is the OS they said this was still troubleshooting and it could be something else so I am loathed to do this unless it is absolutely necessary.

Any help or advice would very gratefully appreciated.

download the Dell driver from the dell website...

in device manager right click and disable wireless card.. Remove driver. refresh and repeat until no driver found..
go into control panel - programs and features - remove wireless driver package if there..

reinstall dell driver

This is what Dell done remotely. If I do this again and I cannot install the new driver will I be able to reinstall the old driver given that I will not be able to access the internet.

What driver where they trying to install? the dell driver or the new driver? (although I'm not sure what new updated driver your referring to) (MS updates. Dell or OEM)

The driver package you pointed to is for windows 7

Now I need to test the new driver and hope that it does correct the issue I was having.

KYHI, having looked over this again the link you have given is for an older driver (Jan 2014) whereas the link I provided is for the latest driver (Dec 2014), which according to the supported operating systems is for Windows 8.1:

This is true, seems to be working OK for now! I'll keep an eye over next day or so and mark as solved if no issues.
