hi,

the driver package for win 64bit for my old (6yrs) HP Laserjet p1005 does not install on my Asus laptop Windows 8.1 64bit system. It stops halfway after trying many times (including trying as administrator and in safe mode). On my wife's Toshiba Windows 8.1 64bit it does install without a problem (and the printer and laptop communicate fine). I tried downloading the printerdrivers from her system using doubledriver. But to no avail. What would you suggest me to try now? It should be possible to install the printer using an .inf file, no?

Regards and thanks in advance, Siso

Try disabling any Anti-malware/Anti-virus software before doing the install. Also make sure the printer is not connected until told to connect.

Only download drivers from the mfg website, not some third party website. Third party websites like printerdrivers or doubledriver can have you downloading files with an infected payload inside of them.

Hi,

thanks broe23 for the advice.

The job's done (succeeded before your answer), I don't know what worked exactly and it seems odd and unconventional to me. But here's what I did.

I extracted files from a .cab inside the HP folder that resulted from the stalled install. I installed HP P1005 from it. Didn't work. I updated my Win8.1 driverslist using Windows Update. I installed P1006. Didn't make P1005 work. I updated again while the printer was connected. Now there suddenly was P1005 in the list of available drivers from Windows Update. Installed. Hey presto! It worked.

Kind regards, Siso
