2 of 4 laptop USB 3.0 ports donít work correctly

Iíve got a problem with my laptopís USB ports. All four are rated 3.0 and Iíve installed all drivers from the laptopís support page (as of a month ago) and everything else from Windows Update.

Presently, two ports function fine, but the other two refuse to connect as 3.0, giving me a message saying ď[d]evice can perform faster when connected to USB 3.0Ē. Additionally, they occasionally wonít recognize my USB 3.0 devices (which work perfectly well everywhere else) at all, though disconnecting and reconnecting usually solves this after a couple tries.

I think Iím running the latest drivers and all, but Iím not experienced enough with the Device Manager and such to really tell if Iím missing something. There are no error messages or unidentified devices there, at least.

The USB 3.0 devices I use are a SanDisk Ultra (64 GB) thumb drive and a Verbatim SNS1TB external HDD.

    General specs:
    Model: Asus G750JZ-DB73
    OS: Windows 8.1 (x64)
    CPU: Intel Core i7-4700HQ
    RAM: 24 GB DDR3 dual-core
Storage: 256 GB SSD, 1 TB 7,200 RPM HDD

Thanks in advance for any help. Please note that replies may be infrequent since I have sporadic online access.

Are you sure they are all USB 3.0 ports? On my K75DE two are (Blue) USB 3.0 ports and two are (Black) USB 2.0 Ports.

Yep, all four USB ports are blue-colored. Additionally, online specs mention 4 USB 3.0 ports, two on each side.

Funny thing, though Ė last night I plugged in my USB 3.0 thumb drive in one of the faulty ports, and just today, I notice it reads ďConnected to USB 3.0Ē when it never gave me that message yesterday.

Try clean the usb ports by folding paper to adequate thickness and insert it into the port 2 or 3 times.

My SD card reader and USB ports have stopped working on my Dell Studio laptop running W8.1. They still identify what's put into the ports and reader as the USB sticks light up and the computer goes bing when an SD card is put in, but they don't show up in Windows Explorer. If I put a cabled USB...
The problem: Multiple new identical laptops with Windows 8.1 have three USB ports, but only the 2.0 port on the right works. The two USB 3.0 ports on the left either don't notice devices (which worked seconds earlier on the right-side port), or sometimes after a minute, a device will appear in...
Hi there It's good to see Laptops now being fitted with at least one Native USB3 port (usually coloured BLUE). Unfortunately the only way I can try these is to use the self powered USB3 passport type devices and while my laptop has a decent Samsung 840 256GB SSD data transfer to / from the...

USB Ports only work intermittently in Drivers & Hardware
Hi, this is my first time posting in these forums. For about a week now I've had problems with the USB ports on my HP G6 2230sa Laptop (Running Windows 8.1). At first the USB ports wouldn't function at all, but for no reason that I can tell, now they work intermittently. I only have a few USB...
Have just downloaded Win8.1. Although IE11 on desktop snaps open, and Google shows up OK, searches for simple things like Zone Alarm or Avast anti-virus say can't be connected despite trouble shooter saying the net is configured OK. In fact no searches seem to work through Google. Direct links...
I have used Synergy for keyboard/mouse sharing for a long time. I can install it and start it on Win 8, but when certain windows are open, it no longer works. For instance, I can open the control panel window, and it's still working, but if I open Device Manager, for instance, it stops working.
