Hello All
How do you shut off the software firewall and any thing else needed, to get a printers IP address?
I am working on getting my new HP lap top (with windows 8.1) to connect wireless to my HP 6988 printer that is 7 years old,
I followed the instructions that came with the printer to "configure the printer."
If the printer is plugged into the Xfinity router with an Ethernet cable the wireless laptop will start the printer.
When the Ethernet cable is removed the printer goes "offline" as seen in "view devices and printer" and will not print.
Reading the printer instructions a little further it reads "a software firewall can cause a lost connection." The instructions continue that the firewall should temporary be shut off before assigning the printer an IP address
