Hello, I have original Windows 8.1 and everything worked well until month ago. I had connected WD HDD as 'backup' for my projects, and Medion Drive-n-go for other stuff. Those were connected 24/7. One day I turned on computer and booth HDDs weren't visible in My Computer. I was looking in Computer Management (Storage) and it wasn't there. Then I tried to plug in some USB 32gb and it didn't show up aswell. I tried all of my HDDs and USBs on laptop and they work perfect. Windows cannot install drivers 'Windows could not find drivers for your device'. Screenshot_1.png

Does that particular drive require a driver from the manufacturer? Some do.

Have you let Windows search for a driver?

I did everything I could. I let Windows search for 'problems' and it found problem. Problem was marked Driver... then I installed some software for scanning drivers it didnt even find those USBs. I was searching on google for a looooong time and found nothing usefull so that is why I post that

Starting to make me think you might have a USB hardware problem. The cable going to the motherboard is securely plugged in?

The first pic you posted looks like they are showing as hidden devices which means they are not recognized at all when plugged in.

In same hub I have right now connected phone and it is visible in my computer. I tried to plug all of USBs back directly on motherboard and it is the same. But in BIOS I see all devices. It is windows/software thing but I don't know what could break down everything just random.

I recently had problems getting Win8.1 to read any of 3 USB sticks. All of them were similar to yours.

I had to reformat them using Gparted in Linux. After that, they worked OK.

My Computer

un plug all external usb devices ,then in device manager delete all usb's in Universal usb controllers ,reboot windows to reinstall usb controllers ,then plug in the devices one by one letting it install drivers before plugging in another device
not sure if this will help, but cant hurt anything ,I have done it many time trying to fix similar issues with usb drives

I'm not familiar with "Patriot Memory"

Well ... I am familiar with that memory as I am using 4GB of DDR3 memory in my desktop, have been for years, and have had no problems with that memory.

DDR3 memory doesn't appear in Device Manager.

More likely, it represents one of their flash drives and "Patriot Memory" is the PlugAndPlay device description burned into device firmware. I'm guessing it represents yet another UMS device...

p.s. When Windows can't locate the driver, it's the PnP device description that appears in Device Manager. (Windows receives it along with other PnP data when a PnP device connects to a PnP data bus). Once a driver is found, Windows uses the device name it finds in the driver file

So am still guessing a UMS driver issue. All the UMS devices probably work - it's just the UMS driver they all require is corrupt. but will see what OP finds
