DVD won't play in laptop

I put in a random dvd to see if it would automatically start playing, come to find out it doesn't. I have windows media player, I have the "use autoplay for all media and devices" box checked in hardware and sound so whats going on?

Unfortunately Windows 8 and later does not support DVD playback, unless you have Windows Media Center;
however, it's just as easy to use VLC Media Player.

I had cyberlink powerDVD pre installed on my laptop but I switched it out for windows media player

So should I just reinstall cyberlink powerdvd?

Yes since it contains the codec needed to play DVDs and WMP should be able to play it

If that doesn't work and you desperately need WMP as the DVD player, you need to upgrade to media center edition, though my tablet already came with it preloaded.

Autoplay is not a real good feature to use in my opinion due to Virus' and Malware. It is one of the most used features they use to infect systems. I prefer to set the system to ask when I insert media what to do.
