It does that when Microsoft/Windows update downloads and installs the Microsoft version of the driver.

Laptops, like most OEM computers, often have customized hardware which may not be compatible with generic Intel drivers. Intel warns about this on their website and the warning message confirms this. Best to stick with manufacturer supplied drivers, even if they are older.

Thanks for the info everyone. I ended up downloading iobit driver booster, I had more drivers out of date on my new laptop than I thought I would.

Some of those "driver update" programs will report a lot of drivers out of date that aren't really out of date. Especially the ones that ask you to pay for the utility before they will actually update your drivers. ;) Buyer beware.

IOBit has a poor reputation with most experienced members of this forum. I wouldn't use any of their products.

What do you mean they have a poor rep? do they gt a poor rep because they used malwarebytes engine or whatever they did for their own program?

IOBit sucks at ethics - Shane Gowland

I've been using ASC since version 3, I've never had a problem with it, it's never installed anything, or changed my default search engine like some people have said. I've had surfing protection since it came out and never had any of the problems that some people have mentioned. I uninstalled ASC , driver booster and surfing protection yesterday since I don't need any of those programs anymore, maybe it was a good idea that I did

I believe in this too. Best to go to your computer manufacturer's website for updates, majority of drivers you already have are fine to leave them alone. Mostly graphics cards, sound cards or any installed card that will need updates. What you will notice out of every Driver Update software it will find different ones for updating. So which one is right, if any ? Know they do make a backup of your older drivers, but sometimes disaster happens before you can restore them, i say always use system restore points too.
