Use Acronis instead of Easus, next time.

You're unlikely to save that install, but since you've really got nothing to lose anyway, you could try deleting all those VirtualBox and VMWare drivers. Copy them elsewhere then delete them if you want, first, instead.
a few questions...1 i have an installation disk for vista that doesnt have a liscence, can i recover my vista liscences?

2 also if i copy all files in vista drive to external hdd, do fresh install and then copy and replace them back, could it fix things

3 can i restore programs if i do a fresh install by copying the relevant files, if not, can i get their liscences back (e.g. photoshop and office)

4 would it be worth a try restoring the same size partitions as it was before i.e. giving vista back the 10GB win8 stole

You can copy your user folder(s) to somewhere else, and when you install software in the newly installed OS, you can then delete their subfolders and replace it with the copied versions. This will retain settings in most programs and also the registration. Some registrations are done in the registry though, instead.

I don't think changing the partition size to anything is going to help. I've never had the situation you have and never tried it though, so that's on you to discover or try if you choose to.

Windows disks don't have licenses. Machines do. (Unless you purchased the retail Vista in the store all by itself.) So the license key should be on your machine sticker, if it came with Vista installed. Use that to validate the OS when at desktop, if you clean install.

As for your #2 question, it has a very slight chance.

Sorry to abandon my thread for so long, was too busy.
    1. If none of the above work, can I install windows 7 over it (booting into disk to install) and migrate everything or do you have to be able to boot vista to migrate. (win7 because you cant migrate vista to win8)
    2. If I cant migrate my stuff because I cant get into vista to do it, can I launch a program/tool in win8 and direct it to my vista drive to do vista to 7 migration.
