I have an asus Vivo Tab Smart (ME400C) -the one that cant be used with dock-

After windows 8.1 update and windows updates
the touchscreen keyboard went from big to super small i cant even type

Ive contacted asus and they said to do refresh and reset for the pc

I did that even before they asked me to do it
ofcourse it worked untill it made all the updates again and it got super small again

been like this for 1 month i dont have a bluetooth keyboard or case i can use so basically I cant use my tablet.

Interesting. Yeah, I remember back in the day when you would upgrade from Windows 98 to Window 98 SE and it would cause all kinds of strange artifacts like this. People would say don't upgrade one version to another. Always do a fresh install of the current version. In another words. you can try to install Windows 8.1 directly if you can (not going from 8.0 to 8.1).

Well, now that you have the problem...I notice you are in your desktop. When you go into the metro (modern UI) screen and bring up the metro IE and tap in the address bar the keyboard should automatically pop up. Is that keyboard small, too?

Have you tried to use a mouse to resize it??

I looked on some forums and there does not seem to be a fix for this. It is very odd.

Sometimes, simply booting Windows into safe mode will reset certain aspects of the operating system.
You might want to try to boot into safe mode and then boot back into regular mode after. Who knows...

You can also try this..

Refresh the operating system again.
Go into the settings for the Windows Updates and tell it NOT to update the drivers.
Then install all the updates but DON'T update drivers. especially any video drivers.
See if that helps.

You can also try to install each update one at a time and see which one is the culprit causing the
keyboard to shrink. But, I suspect it was a video driver update.

My money is still on one of the driver updates, most likely the video. On my Asus tablet if I update the bluetooth driver as the Windows Updates want it causes my bluetooth not to work. I also have an older video driver that works better than any newer driver so I am sure not to update that, either.

I am glad you got the keyboard unshunk, though! ~

Yeah, windows update always recommends new drivers - but they are not also the best working drivers.. windows driver updates knocked out my camera, Bluetooth and wifi. On a windows 7 machine there was no driver in 8 compatible for the wifi, had to replace it..

When you do update you need to look for the driver updates to prevent them from installing.. if they do install you can try to roll them back.. and if that don't work you can disable driver updates all togather.. The secutity updates are fine to install

Also try clicking the keyboard symbol to the left of the X to expand the keyboard..

Hi
I know this topic it's 6 months old but I'll post my suggestion anyway, maybe for Google crawler if not for Jeancance.

I have a 10.1" tablet with Win 8.1 too, an ASUS - T100 to be precise and I tested and re-tested everything that follows many times.
By now everyone know that in Windows everything is in registry settings. I think in your case the problem comes from a bad detection/declaration of touchscreen panel size. There is a registry key for that:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Scaling]
"MonitorSize"="10.1"
Where 10.1 is the monitor size expressed in inch. In my case this reg key was absent but I create it myself.
You can copy this key (all bolded text) and paste it to a new text document (plain text made with Notepad).
Save the document then change his extension from New Text Document.TXT to New Text Document.REG
Double click (tap) on this new file and execute it (import this reg key into registry).
Restart tablet and be happy with your new keyboard size.
If you are not satisfy with your new size you can re-edit New Text Document.REG created before (open with Notepad) and choose another value instead of 10.1, personally I use 15.1 instead but it's your choice ofc.
I will post bellow some pics to see the results.

Resurrecting this thread to see if anyone has come up with a way to do this with the latest Windows 10 fall creator's update? I was using this on Windows 10 prior to the update and it worked great and now it no longer does.
