Solved SD Card Gone after win8.0 update to win8.1

Hi,

This 64GB internal card was working fine on win8.0 Acer v5, laptop.

Tried four different SD cards, win8.1 could not see any.
I have checked with SFC and DISM no problems.
Hardware Diagnostic tool does not find the SD.
Updated drivers from Acer. No help.
Have Auto Play set to use for everything.
Tried 8GB and 32GB SD cards, nothing.
If I plug the SD cards into a USB adapter they all work fine.

This sucks big time as the SD is my daily back up drive.

OK, problem solved. Win8.1 kept seeing the SD card slot and installing the "Standard SD card slot drivers.

Acer's Support for this model V5 showed the card reader as an Alcom or something close to that and I was pretty sure that was wrong. I reinstalled an older backup image of win8 and Device manager showed the SD card reader as Broadcom SD SCSI drivers.

I reinstated the win8.1 in place of the win8 backup and then I went back to the Acer V5 models then looked through until I found a card reader that had Broadcom drivers. Downloaded that and installed and all is well with the world again.

Who was at fault? Beats me, but the card reader is obviously telling win8.1 that it is just a vanilla slot. Acer got it wrong for not listing a Broadcom card reader driver with this model. On many of their models they list two or three different drivers, but for mine there was only one and it was the wrong one for what was actually in the laptop.

The original win8.0 worked fine as the Broadcom drives were installed at the Acer factory.
