Cloned my old HDD to a new SSHD but it will not boot.

Thank you Topgun, but would all programs run faster? Or just the boot? i was under the impression the hybrid SSHD would have similar results to an SSD.

Yes, with hybrid drive, it does help speed up since the hybrid drive has its own memory manager and decide what file/data you frequently use and load them into the SSD part. However, it does not have the speed as a pure SSD.

Ah ok, thank you for the response.

So there is no way of me booting my PC with my new hybrid drive by cloning from my old HDD, i would have to do a clean install of my system?

    Thank you.

Yes, You'd have to re-install Windows. Initialize the 4TB drive as GPT disk type, set your BIOS to UEFI and re-install.

Hello Again Top gun, i was actually able to purchase the SSD you mention on sale for Cyber Monday.

So now i have a question, How can i make my windows boot from the SSD and how can i configure certain programs/games to boot from the SSD as well. Could I clone my boot info onto the ssd and switch the primary boot on the bios and expect it to work?

If i have to re-install windows onto the SSD, can i just plug my HDD/SSHD back in after the install and expect my programs to be there? Sorry i am not very Computer-savy.

    Thanks in advanced.

That is only in part correct. For sequential reads, they are nearly as fast as SSDs. For random that is another story. The arm still has to fly around for the access and the HDD access time is appr. 150 times slower than on a SSD.

For your OS transfer I would suggest you make a Macrium image of the 2 partitions on the 2TB drive. Then define the exact same partitions on the 4TB drive and restore the images to those partitions. Make sure you mark the system partition active.

I never had a lot of luck with Macrium cloning either. That's why I go the more difficult route via the images.

    1. Connect the SSD to a USB/Sata port. Run Macrium and create a backup image as shown in the screen shot and save it to thw 4TB HD.

    2. Shutdown and disconnect the HD containing Windows and connect the SSD, set the SSD to be the first boot device in BIOS
    3. Reboot the PC, it should boot from the SSD.

    Hello Top Gun,

I tried this method yesterday, but when i click on "Creat an image of the partitions..." it seems to make an image that is about 1.8 TB, On my album (link below) the second image shows the screen that pops up after i click on that. Is there certain things i have to uncheck in order to man an image that will only copy the files needed to boot windows 8 onto my ssd?

Again thanks for all the help, hopefully we can resolve this soon.

What do you actually want to image. Check only those partitions that you want. Here is more info on Macrium imaging:
