Solved Hard Drive stops responding
Hi,
(please check my system specs below)
I have this Seagate 1tb hard which I bought in May (Still under warranty) which gave up booting windows 3 days ago when I got home. I restarted the pc 3 , 4 times and it was able to load windows 8.1 x64.. but eventually everything stops like computer freezes but mouse works. Everything works again in 1 to 2 minutes then again the same problem after couple of minutes. I thought it was a bad hard drive but gave it to a friend and told him to check this hard drive, he thoroughly checked it and found no problems with the hard drive after running it for 2 to 3 hours. He even tried booting from it and found no issues at all. Yesterday I plugged this hard back into my pc with a new data cable and changed power cable too but the problem is still the same with me.. could it be a bad PSU, Mobo socket or other issue ?
p.s my usb ports keep connecting / disconnecting since some months even though I've changed 4 power supplies and 1 motherboard.
Please help.

Did you try running in safe mode to discount possibility of bad drivers ? You can also try booting with a Linux live from CD or USB ?

That might be BIOS issue than, does it show up there all the time, tried changing ports ? Is it set to AHCI or IDE?

There should be options for SATA controller for IDE, RAID or AHCI modes. Some HDDs do not play nicely with other than IDE mode. AHCI does not help HDD (for SSD is a must) and RAID, well RAID is for multiple disks connected to each other in some way so it's not useful for anything else.
