Keyboard Is Not Responding When Windows Wakes Up

Sometimes when I put my computer in sleep mode and then wake it up, the keyboard is seemingly disabled; I can't type anything at all. Mouse is fine though.

My temporary solution is to change the language preference in the lock screen when it happens; the keyboard is then activated. I don't understand how that works, but it does.

Welcome to the Forums.

What type of keyboard and mouse? PS/2 .. USB ... wireless etc..

I assume if you hit a key while the PC is sleeping it doesn't wake up?

It's a laptop, so I assume the keyboard is USB connected. Mouse is USB, too.

When I tap on the keyboard, Windows does wake up, but I can't type anything after that.

Have you tried running sfc/dism & sfc again ?

Here they are in a batch file---

View attachment dism.bat

Download it & right click it & choose Properties & Unblock it & right click it & choose Run as administrator.
Dism hangs on 20% for a long time.
It takes 2 hours or so for the scans to complete.

Hope it helps. :)

In that case the script work-around will likely prevent the lock screen until you can find the root cause. You might try the device manager trick. Open device manager and delete the drivers for the USB keyboard or USB generally, then reboot. Often when Windows automatically reinstalls the drivers on boot it gets them right. I don't know why it happens but I've seen this work a high percentage of the time.

Sorry guys, it is a Standard PS/2, not USB like I initially thought.

And what exactly does System File Checker have to do with keyboard ?

SFC fixes things.
Dism fixes the Component Store SFC draws upon to fix things
Once dism fixes the store sfc works better.

They may fix the keyboard problem.
It doesn't hurt to run them.
If they don't help, you will have eliminated a possible solution. :)

Unfortunately, it fails again. This time it happened as I was having a USB just plugged in, maybe somehow it messed up the whole USB port system ?
