Brand new here. I have a complex problem. I started having trouble with my text to speech program playing in Win 8.1 - as the audio started breaking up when played. When trying to resolve this I noticed that task manager showed the HD was running at near 100% most of the time. I suspected that the HD was causing the audio problem with text to speech - which is the only audio problem I have. All other audio plays back normally. I tried all the HD fixes I could find online like disabling services like SuperFetch and windows search. Nothing has worked. I have also tried command prompts to test HD. All say its ok. I did a complete system restore and wiped the HD back to win 8. HD is not maxed with almost no programs installed. However, when Windows Update is running again it is running at 100% and the system is very slow. Windows update failed and said I need to install Windows Update software. I did that but there was a lot of updates since I had done a reinstall I got failure messages and Windows Update took 8 hours to install. BIG QUESTION. Could my HD be failing or is win 8 corrupt? I have refreshed the system a number times. Nothing has worked.
