Hard Drives not showing in Computer Management

This is my first build. Just getting Windows 8 on the SSD was a minor adventure on its own.

    i7 2600
    ASUS P8Z68
Windows 8 on new 60gb OCZ SSD - Shows in Computer Management.
New 2tb WD Green - Shows. Formatting right now.
2tb WD Green - Shows but as unformatted - working on this w/ testdisk.
    1tb WD Green - Shows.
1tb WD Green - Does not show.
250gb WD not sure of series - Does not show - this was my last comp's main C drive w/ Vista. Sata is through a Vantec PCI-E card. The user manual was very confusing & I have not installed any drivers for the card. There were dozens, several required copying the drivers to then installing from old-school floppies (who still has those?!), & they all read like they assumed a RAID array.
500gb Seagate - Does not show. Also using the PCI-E card.

Just to anticipate a few of the simpler answers: Yes all the drives' pertinent cables are all attached in the appropriate places & yes, they all worked fine before-hand. Well, okay the Seagate was wonky. Forget the Seagate.

You seems to have a lot of HD in this PC, you probably install them on the third party controller, Marvell or something else ( not the Intel one ) and it's not activated in the BIOS, or the drivers are not install, what model of motherboard you have ?

Three aren't showing. One of those is connected to the motherboard. And it's arguably the most important to me - my audiobooks. Also I ran a driver scanner that came back 100% clean.

A little advice - stay away from those driver scanners. Quickest way to ruin an install.

Other than that, ya like Area says. Install the driver for the controller that isn't working yet and also make sure in bios, it's enabled.

For the Vantec card, research it to see if it uses Silicon Image chipset. If so, visit SI's site for the driver. Make sure you choose correctly RAID or IDE, depending on which bios the card has installed. (You can change the bios by flashing if you wish.)

I'm tech illiterate. I don't know what flashing is, only have a vague notion of 'controller' & 'chipset'. But I'll run some searches.

Question - One of the drives not showing is just like one of the drives that do show. WD 1tb Caviar Green. If it was a driver issue, wouldn't they both have the same status?

I think there are jumpers on the card to enable/disable ports too.

Okay, I'm downloading jmicron drivers now for the PCI-E card. We'll see how that goes.

V/GEN3. Two WD 1 tb greens - one shows, one does not - both are connected to the host adapters on this board.

so the problem is not with the driver or the UEFI (BIOS) the 6 connectors on the board are Intel, only the esata connector at the back is not. Is this green drive was part of a raid before ? have you try it in the connector of one of the working drive to see if it work ? Have you try with another Sata cable ? please stop to use third party software, it will not fix anything.

Okay, this is embarrassing. I forgot about the hotswap bay on top of the machine - it's connected in the adapter I thought the 1tb green was in. The 1tb will likely be fine. If by third party software you mean the jmicron driver, that's all about the PCI-E card I bought to add more SATA adapters. Windows crashed while I was installing that.

After the recent updates, half my drives are showing as raw in win8 disk mgmt. Win 8 Explorer wants me to format them. They are fine - all ntfs - show up correctly in Paragon HDM12 and work correctly when I boot into win7. Anybody else getting similar?
