If by third party software you mean the jmicron driver, that's all about the PCI-E card I bought to add more SATA adapters. Windows crashed while I was installing that.
Here's the latest driver for the J-Micron posted 6/15/2011, driver date 5/19/2011:

No , the Jmicron is only for the external esata connector.... I means the "driver scanners" and "testdisk"

Got rid of driver scanner. J-micron however is causing automatic DCP Watchdog Violation/BSOD.

You can run the tool in the top most thread of the Crash and Debug subforum then attach the zip here that it makes.

The latest driver wouldn't cause that as it's known well. Something else on the system is causing crashes, likely.

If you have 3rd party antivirus like AVG, that would be the cause.

If you don't need the esata , just disable the J-micron controller in the BIOS, I hate all those third party controller. I always disable them.

It's not 3rd party. It's part of the motherboard. Fixing things doesn't entail making features you pay for not work.

No AVG or others. I don't have any programs installed & then only driver I've been messing with is this one.

Every time I run the driver installation W8 crashes. The driver was even showing up a reboot or two ago in Device Manager. Then I switched over to Disk Management to look for the drives (which show up just fine in the J-micron BIOS) but they weren't there. Went back to device manager & J-micron was gone. About ten seconds later - Crash.

Maybe I need to update, but every time I check I just get the message 'Windows could not check for new updates'.

I gave you a link to the latest and best driver already above. (No need to search for it.) If you have further issues, you're welcome to run the tool as shown above, too.

Probably easiest to install it using the device manager. Right click, update driver software, browse my computer, let me pick, have disk...

Double click on the inf in the correct 32 bit or 64 bit R1.17.63.01\Driver folder you extracted to. Hit ok then next. It will install.

Yeah it's the same one I downloaded. I can't update the device because it's no longer listed. I just ran a check for new hardware & got the BSOD again.

yes it's third party , it's not an Intel chips, only the marketing department push the engineering to include them on the motherboard, it's crap . On Asus ROG forum we usually never connect anything on non Intel Controller and we deactivate them in the BIOS. If I don't use it I don't use it.

Win8 showing Drives as raw in General Support
After the recent updates, half my drives are showing as raw in win8 disk mgmt. Win 8 Explorer wants me to format them. They are fine - all ntfs - show up correctly in Paragon HDM12 and work correctly when I boot into win7. Anybody else getting similar?
