Hello everyone, i know the title sounds amateur-ish, but hear me out. I have my windows installation on a different hard drive than the one i'm talking about.
a friend of mine had a computer with a RAID setup for the hard drives in it, but after one failed, he just replaced them both and i took the one that was still good and formatted it. I have since been using it as a backup hard drive for specific files.
It is a 500gb hard drive, but it only shows 338 free after a format, if i go into properties for it it says there are 146 MB used, but you can't even see a sliver on the pie chart. I was thinking that being put in a raid setup had changed the partition somewhat and had redered part of the drive useless. Should i do the Diskpart utility from cmd prompt? last time i used it on a flash drive that memtest had rendered useless i still couldn't format the flash drive and has since been useless to me, even though i followed all of the instructions that many others had said worked for theirs. I just don't wan to ruin this hard drive by trying to squeeze a (possible) 100 extra gigs out of it.
If anyone has any suggestions, i would greatly appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me.
Thanks a lot.
