Has my new PC or Windows8 killed my printer?

My new PC tells me the drivers are not working on my HP Deskjet 4480 and won't connect/print. It seems unlikely that there's really a problem with the printer - it was fine until I bought the new PC.
Any ideas please?

As always with any device connected device like Printers. Install the Driver, preferably the full feature one from HP for your version of Windows, or you make do with the basic Driver which Windows will find either in it's Driver cache, or might come from HP.

Also in the HP drivers section for your printer there is under "Utility - Diagnostic Tools" there is a HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows, run that if you are stuck.

I agree with Helmut, except for the "full feature" part. Most people do not need multiple "suites" of HP branded utilities to print from anywhere in the world, manage photos and images, auto updaters, OCR, and more. You don't need the full suites if you only need to print, occasionally scan or fax, or to copy. In other words, if all you need is the basic features of a printer, scanner, fax or copier, you don't need the full featured suite of utilities, you only need the basic drivers.

Windows 8.1 has the basic HP Deskjet F4400 series drivers built in. If me, I would use them. If you then decide you need all the bloat... err, I mean extra, unneeded... err, useful features HP wants to shove... err, I mean foist... err, I mean install on your system consuming massive... err frugal [cough, cough] amounts of disk space, RAM and CPU cycles, then install the full suite.

The problem with the Universal Print Driver is it is for printing - AFAIK, it does not enable support for scanning or other features.

I know - OP has only complained about connecting/printing!
